Coastal Bombardment (Rocket Artillery)

Rocket artillery ship. The launcher boat is as simple as possible to allow for the maximum amount of chained rockets, while still being able to move and aim. The max number of rockets you can chain seems to be 6, as each rocket needs 3 parts (bomb flower, rocket, Puffshroom), and they all need to be attached to a construct head. So with 6 rockets that leaves 4 remaining parts in the part limit for the launcher. I’m trying to make a movable land-based launcher as well, but that 4 part limit on it is kinda rough

Nuclear Glide Bomb

I’ve been playing around with explosives recently. It turns out the spacing between the bombs/barrels as well as the order in which they explode have a major effect on the actual damage they do, and how far the explosion launches things. More research to come

Also shrunken wings provide alot more lift than I gave them credit for

PWM Motor Speed Controller and Adjustable Servos

I think there’s a lot of untapped potential with this idea. So far the aimable cannon is my favorite, but I have a bunch more ideas once I get the system more refined

High Bouncing Balls

It turns out the Wing's upwards boost property that u/MrOrdun posted about a couple weeks ago also works on the bouncing yellow float balloons. If they even touch water with a mini wing attached, they go flying on their own. The second clip is what it looked like the entire time I was testing different designs with these. The balls that look like they’re coming from nowhere are just falling from ridiculously high

High Precision Laser Scale

Another scale upgrade. On top of optimizing the base design and balancing everything to within an inch of its life, I added a laser option as well to take advantage of the higher precision. I wanted to keep the self-leveling, so I found a workaround to add the lasers while keeping the stabilizer. You need to provide two additional lasers. There’s a little shelf under the stabilizer for one beam to go, and the other goes on the metal bar with the steering stick. When the stabilizer is activated, a laser on the back of the scale comes on so you can easily align the other two. Once they’re aligned, even a slight difference in weight is easy to see. I added the steering stick both to be an easy way to know you’re viewing the lasers from straight on, but also because a stray arrow from activating it is enough to tilt the scale now and skew the measurement.

Note: You can still use the scale without using the additional lasers. It works just like the last version

Torpedo Prototype

Still pretty early in trying how to design a good torpedo, but watching these things chase Liazalfos around in the water is really funny

[Aug26] The Ball Ski Lite: Potentially the most efficient watercraft

The original Ball Ski used 2 fans, but I got it down to 1 while keeping it stable. Compared to the original Ball Ski, the Lite isn’t as weirdly good at crossing land and climbing hills, but it can still cross patches of land instead of getting stuck like other watercraft. It’s just as fast on water and a bit more maneuverable!

The float ball lets you bounce around like you’re riding waves, and also helps you prevent getting stuck, or get unstuck if you do.

This only uses 3 parts, so it only costs 9 Zonaite. If you provide the fan and steering stick, it only costs 3 (assuming you don’t have the float ball fused Forest Dweller sword).

I’d love to be proven wrong, but without glitches, I don’t think there’s a more efficient water craft both speed- and cost-wise.

TIL fusing a shield to a spear lets you block and parry

You can do the same thing with swords too, but there’s not much of a benefit because you can just hold a shield anyway

Improved Scale of Weighing Things

I’ve been weighing a lot of things recently, so I decided to upgrade the scale I’ve been using. This one looks cleaner, is easier to use, and is a bit more accurate and easy to read.

Compared to the one in my last post, the scale is all new, and the stabilizer things are slightly refined. Together you can now measure smaller differences in mass, even if it’s not a big enough difference to fully tilt the scale.

To figure out much something weighs, weigh it against things of known mass, and add them up once the scale balances. For example, the small wing at the end weighs about as much as 4 batteries and 2 apples, so it’s about 220 mass (almost 90% lighter than the normal wing which is 1800)

Some counter weights I like to use are
Apple: 10 mass
Raw Meat: 25 mass
Battery: 50 mass
Zonai Light: 100 mass
Time Bomb: 300 mass
Homing Cart: 3000 mass

Fused Weapon Weight is Weird

Base mass of the objects in the video:
Zonai Light: 100
Homing Cart: 3,000
Float Ball: 6,480
Heaviest Iron Ball: 50,000

I was doing some science trying to figure out how fusing objects affects their weight. I was left with more questions than answers, but here’s what I found.

Weapons / shields either weigh 50 or 75 mass, that’s it, it’s one of those two. It seems like just the wood weapons/shields are 50, everything else is 75.

The size of the fused weapon has absolutely nothing to do with the weight. Despite being physically much smaller, a Zonaite Sword with an iron ball fused to it weighs more than a Boat Oar with the same iron ball fused to it. (Because the Zonaite Sword weighs 75 while the Boat Oar weighs 50. The fused object mass stays the same.)

Lighter weight objects seem to keep the same weight when fused. There’s some weight where it starts compressing the mass. It seems to be a curve that compresses harder the higher the object mass is; then there’s a cut-off where it just hits the max weight.

The max weight of a fused object (not including the weapon) seems to be about 165 mass.

I have no idea what mass the weight starts compressing at, how that compression scales, or what base object mass is the cutoff for a max weight fused weapon.

It seems like some fusions are lighter than the normal scaling would suggest, so there might be some special cases (eg a fused fan weighs more than a fused wing, despite the base mass of a fan being 300 and the wing’s base mass is 1800)

Odd Electric Battery Behaviors

One thing I forgot to add, but a fused electric battery holds the same about of power as a regular one. Unfortunately, fused Zonai batteries don’t work at all.

Only minor civilian casualties in today’s operations

I don’t see anything about cluster missiles in Geneva’s conventions

The Hornet: Ultimate Homing Cluster Missile (Showcase / Clip Compilation)

The Hornet: Homing Cluster Missile

This is my first version of this new design, so there’s still room for improvement. After a certain distance, it releases 3 separate mini homing missiles, which can lock on to a single target or multiple. They start fanning out once they disconnect, but you can vary that distance by cooking off the primary rocket for different results. You can keep them a close cluster or a wider net. You can hit targets on land, in the air, water, behind cover, or really anywhere. Having them come from different angles opens up a lot of possibilities. Even after the mini missiles explode, they’ll still dart around at enemies and do some extra physical damage and cause more chaos. I had fun playing with this today, but I think there are still some more improvements that can be done. Let me know what you think

Thanks again u/kmarkow for the shrunken bombs and dragon parts. They made a huge improvement on this build!

[AUG26] The Ball Ski: Cheap Ball-Based Jet Ski

The Ball Ski! ☀️😎🌊

It’s cheap, maneuverable, bouncy when you want it to be, stable when you don’t! Only uses 4 parts: 2 fans, a steering stick, and a wooded Float Ball club (ideally a Forrest Dweller Sword club for the handle, but any wood club should work). It’s pretty easy to build, and since it doesn’t use any re-sized parts, you can build it on Switch 1 as well. It’s fast on the water, and it can get across land just fine too

Request: Does anyone have a QR for a mini bomb flower and dragon parts?

Ideally a mini spike, but any dragon part would be great. I have a cool idea for a mini missile, those are the only two mini parts I don’t have
