Delaware County Community College Moves to Cut Counseling

Article regarding Counselor layoffs at DCCC. My question to the president, help me understand your statement… How would this poor move “expand access” for students?

Laying off counselors that are integrated in our college classrooms and the community, and outsourcing mental health counseling would NOT expand access by any means.
Please survey the students, we have a voice! I have yet to receive any communication about this from the college.

DCCC Counselors are being cut

Delaware County Community College is eliminating its Counseling Department. All counselors are being laid off, with June 30 serving as the final day for the remaining full-time counselors. Part-time counselors have already been let go. I’ve heard this from my counselor a few weeks ago, but they were hopeful they would get the support to stay but now it’s now it’s not sounding like it…

These cuts affect services that students rely on, including:

• Academic counseling and educational planning
• Career counseling, including exploring majors and career paths
• Personal counseling and student support
• Mental health counseling services

Students should be aware that these services may be significantly reduced, restructured, or outsourced after June 30.

Counselors play a critical role in helping students navigate academic challenges, career decisions, personal crises, and mental health concerns. For many students, they are the first point of contact when seeking help and support.

Students, alumni, faculty, staff, and community members who are concerned about these changes should contact college leadership and the Board of Trustees to ask questions about the future of student support services.

You can also voice your concerns at the next Board of Trustees meeting on Wednesday, June 17, 2026 at 5:00 p.m. at the new Southeast Center (old Prendie Building)

open for public comment at 6:00 p.m. Arrive early!

Student success depends on more than the classroom. It depends on access to guidance, counseling, and mental health resources that help students stay enrolled, overcome challenges, and achieve their goals.

If counseling services have made a difference in your educational journey, now is the time to speak up.
