Internal Apple Retail career advice: Stay in current store or relocate to a new store for faster leadership growth?

Hi everyone,
I’m looking for advice from people who have experience growing within Apple Retail, especially those who have been through internal promotions or helped open new stores.
Here’s a bit of my journey.
I joined Apple as a Specialist in July 2025 with no previous Apple Retail experience (although I had several years of retail experience from my family business). Since joining, I’ve tried to say yes to every opportunity to learn and take on more responsibility.
Over the past year I’ve:
● Been recognised as Business Advocate.
● Been recognised as Setup Champion for resolving complex setup and data transfer escalations.
● Consistently delivered strong customer experience and business metrics (AppleCare, Accessories, NPS, Business Intro, etc.).
● Shared setup best practices and process improvements with the team.
● Mentored newer Specialists through shadowing and floor coaching.
One milestone I’m particularly proud of is becoming a Core Facilitator in 2026, less than a year after joining Apple. I’m also currently the youngest team member in my store, so being trusted to onboard new hires on products, services, store processes, internal tools, and Apple Retail culture meant a lot to me. I also took learning beyond the classroom by coaching new team members on the floor through live customer interactions.
Recently, I interviewed for an Expert position at a brand-new Apple Store in another city and received an offer.
My long-term goal isn’t to stay an Expert forever. I’d like to continue growing into a Lead role and eventually move into store leadership.
This is where I’m struggling with the decision.
If I stay in my current store, leadership already knows my work, I’ve built credibility, and I have opportunities to continue developing.
If I move, I’ll be joining a brand-new store from day one as an Expert, helping build the culture and hopefully creating more opportunities to take ownership.
For those who’ve experienced Apple Retail leadership progression:
● Does joining a new store actually accelerate the path to becoming a Lead, or is progression mostly based on performance regardless of location?
● Have you seen people move into leadership faster because they were part of a new store opening?
● If you were in my position, would you stay where leadership already knows your work, or would you take the opportunity to help build a new store?
