IME in a month

I got an MMI designation and release last month after a cortisone shot. Was feeling pretty damn good. Then, a few days after seeing that doctor, the familiar pain started coming back. Eventually it was all the way back. So, shit.

I went back to ask to reopen my case, and the doctor said ok. I met with the ortho, who said he'd do one more shot and then it would be surgery.

I then went for a follow up with the doc again and the receptionist said my claim had been denied, which was an embarrassing way to find out.

I made some phone calls. Eventually found out that the insurance company had scheduled an IME for me (when they were going to tell me is unclear).

So now I have to wait another month in pain just to have someone who doesn't know me tell me that pain doesn't matter. It matters when I drive, sleep, get dressed, brush or wash my hair, type, sometimes just when I'm sitting. But because I was able to move the arm just fine after the injection, I think I might not get to go forward with more treatment.

The biggest complications:

  1. I'm currently looking for work. Wondering who will hire me with my current restrictions and a potential surgery coming up.

  2. No lawyer will take my case because I was an employee for a Federally recognized Tribe at the time.

I want to scream all the time.

That is all.

Might as well get a bad haircut too.

This week was shit.
Cannot see a psych or get meds adjusted soon because new insurance.
And then I go to trim up my hair, for the job interviews and self esteem boost…. Come out looking more like an old lady than before. I hate short hair! Where was the miscommunication!
Currently have my hoody pulled tight around my face like a teenager and on the bed and I’m pretty sure I won’t be getting up for a week if I can help it.

Ill with possible Cyclospora

Test is still at the lab, but I've been ill since early Friday.

Trying to keep blood sugar in check while not the least bit hungry is going better than expected, but wondering if people had tips for staying in range on very limited food intake.

I'm also concerned about dehydration. Tolerating one glass or so of Liquid IV per day.

And....it's my birthday. So mostly just complaining, but I will gladly listen to advice or ideas. Thanks!

Diabetic nourishment

Unconfirmed, but sample is at lab. I’m only 24 hours in, but my symptoms are extremely unusual for me, especially to last even this long.

BRAT diet spikes my blood sugar, but I am going to need to carefully choose my foods as I’m not hungry. Trying some ritz crackers, which seem to be ok, but not a solution for the whole day.
Food just sounds gross.

Sorry, a lot of complaining. Thought maybe other diabetics out there had advice.

Looking for fancy feast

Second edit: Over The Moon has a lovely atmosphere. I would recommend it for the romance alone. I would also mention that the food was good, but for $52, I’m expecting one the best salmon dinners I’ve ever had. It was fine. My partner had pasta. Also fine. Not exceptional.
That said, I fully understand the recommendation and I’m glad we got to experience the atmosphere!

Edit: Thank you so much to all of you! We have a lot of places to check out going forward!
Ultimately, we ended up making a reservation at Over The Moon Cafe.
Very excited!

My birthday is fast approaching, and I would like to go to a once a year type place.
El Gaucho and S&S are out for reasons we can discuss another time.
What else, outside of going to Seattle, might work?

Thanks!

Accepted an NAF offer today

Exciting!

…but the letter from HR stated that after we have a phone conversation to go over pay, benefits, and location, they’ll get more information from me to “begin the hiring process.”

I think we might have different definitions of what that means.

I am not good at telling stories: real or embellished

I realized this a bit late, but hopefully I have another chance somewhere else.
I have a lot of experience, but struggle to come up with a specific example, even if I’ve prepared for just that question. I truly cannot tell a good story. I backtrack, tell too much or too little, stutter, lose my train of thought…it’s just a shitshow.
Next time I’m going to use generalities. “I tend to” “in the past, I have” “in that situation, I would”
That’s the only way I’m going to survive this.

Another newbie question

Washington State
How do I shop at Winco? I am in the parking lot. Do I have to separate items? What if I get one wrong? Does that slow everyone down?
Thanks for any advice!

Management interview today

Applied for a long shot managerial position in my field. A 25 year career, higher education than they require, and team lead for most positions.
I’ve looked at many likely interview questions about both this particular job and general managerial interview
Questions.
I have stories, scenarios, examples.
Right now I feel confident and prepared.
Pretty sure I’ll be fighting off a heart attack in a few hours.

How to calm?

Interviewing for CYS Lead Assistant

Reading the job description, it sounds like a lead teacher or even assistant director position. Either way, I really hope this opportunity works for me.
What can you tell me about this job?

And Lordy…I have to pass a physical? What does that entail?

Thanks, all!

Tell us about your Professional challenges.

I have two promising interviews today to be an early childhood educator and team leader. I’m torn between three answers to this question. Please advise.

  1. My greatest strength is time management, which is helpful in this role where schedules and routines are the structure by which everything else is built. However, I tend to expect that same sense and compliance in others. I realize that’s not always fair or culturally sensitive. I’m working on giving more grace in this area and providing scaffolds such as signaling prior to transitions, communicating needs, and asking myself truthfully if this specific circumstance is a real issue or my own bias.

  2. I tend to focus most of my attention on the students and classroom during instructional time rather than interacting with colleagues except to communicate adjustments or needs. While I try to address any issues outside of class time, that style can come across as dismissive or unfriendly in the moment, which is never my intention. I’m learning to establish and build connections with my team whenever possible, such as during family-style meals with the children when casual conversation between adults is helpful and encouraged in order to model polite and relaxed conversation.

  3. It has been pointed out to me that I have a tendency toward over-communicating by text or email and expecting each point to be read and absorbed. Diverse learning styles and our shared current culture that necessitates the rapid triage of the sheer bulk of information, makes this an unrealistic expectation for most people.
I’m learning to offer information in bite-sized chunks, in multiple formats (verbally and posters or signs), and in a way that is relevant to the recipient.

Colonoscopy prep

Edit: Thanks, all. I was just confused, thinking I could *only* have prep once I started. Going to leave the post up for posterity. Had some juice. Doing well!

I hesitate to ask a search engine…but my blood sugar is getting pretty low from a liquid diet all day. Now it’s prep-drinking time. Can I still have a liquid with protein like bone broth and juice to get my numbers back up?

Stuck

Cannot get through to federal or local office by phone because I don’t have the magical “caller id” number, so I get kicked off the automated system.
Cannot set up payment plan online because that system says it can’t help me at this time or some shit.
So I owe money, but cannot find a way to pay in installments.
I guess I wait for another letter??

Changed jobs

Fell at previous job and will likely need shoulder surgery and potentially something to help sciatica pain from stenosis in lumbar spine (using private insurance to prove the spine damage is related to the fall). Still meeting with doctors and specialists and WC has cooperated so far.

However, I am 30 years into my career and was already planning on changing jobs within the career. So I did and my new employer is good with my restrictions and appointments.

Now, if and when I have surgery, will I be compensated for the time off (new job pays significantly less than old job (peace > money at times)) through WC or will I have to wait until I’ve been there long enough to apply for FMLA?

Any space for human writing skills?

I’m considering helping a local non-profit on a shoe string budget with some free grant writing. Now, I know nothing about the subject, but am a skilled writer and willing to learn.
So two and a half questions:
Are free online courses helpful and, if so, are some better than others?
Is there any chance that human writing can win over AI? (I ask because I’ve read maybe three posts in this subreddit and all of them mentioned using AI, which I will never do for any reason.)
