Paris to Montpellier

Bonsoir, a couple of months ago we moved from Paris to Montpellier, and I’m finding it a little harder than expected to build my own social circle here. My partner’s friends are mostly French, and they are amazing people but I’d love to meet internationals and people from different backgrounds too to create my circle and keep practicing English.

For those living in Montpellier: what activities, meetups, groups or events would you recommend joining to meet new expats? 😊

Merci ❣️

Even a tree can move

They say, "You're not a tree—you can move."

I say, "Even a tree can move."

A photo from July 2023.

Where was I? If anyone knows, is the tree still there?

The only thing left for them to claim is the khatchkar itself

I was in a souvenir shop when a coaster on the table next to the cashier immediately caught my eye. It had a pomegranate and the blue and red trchnakir (bird-letter) style birds. No alphabet, just the same birds. I instantly knew it was Armenian.

Out of curiosity, I asked the cashier where the coasters were from. To my surprise, she said, "They're Turkish."

It was extremely upsetting and disappointing. I told her what those symbols mean in my culture, but she insisted that many of these things are shared between our cultures. And that she brought them from Turkey.

I honestly don't understand how trchnakir birds, an Armenian art form inspired by the Armenian alphabet that has existed for centuries, combined with the pomegranate, one of Armenia's national symbols, can simply be called Turkish. I understand that the pomegranate on its own is a symbol found across the region. But combined with trchnakir-style birds? The same birds, the same colors, the same artistic style? That combination is Armenian to me.

It was very frustrating to see that piece being sold as a Turkish souvenir in Europe. So much of our cultural heritage gets claimed by them without any acknowledgment of their Armenianness. It is really upsetting. The only thing left for them to claim is the khatchkar itself!

[Product Request] Looking for similar product to Cerave SA smoothing cream

Hello,

I recently switched to Cerave SA smoothing cream and I absolutely love it. Though I dislike the white cast it leaves on my dark clothes.

Any equivalent EU-accessible products that do the same job but don't stain your clothes? Preferably also budget friendly.

Thank you ❣️
