What material can i put on metal bottlecaps so i can paint them with gouache?

i am trying to make pins using recycled materials and i don't want to use acrylic much or at all, i was thinking gesso but that's usually used to make surfaces less porous so it might not work on an already non porous surface.

if anyone has any ideas please share
