What to do about stains/imperfections in finish of vintage solid maple night tables

Just picked up two solid maple night stands for $15 each from an estate sale. They are quite old with some light scratches and other imperfections.

So far I've cleaned them with a strong solution of murphy's oil soap and then wiped down with a wet cloth, then dried.

But there are some residue/discolourations left in the finish still. I'm not sure if the actual finish is missing/degraded in these areas, or if this is dirt/residue that is persisting on top of the finish?

Any advice what to do next with these? Is there any universe in which i could layer another coat of some type of finish on top, without having to do a full re-sand and multiple coats etc?

How to resolve someone using your address repeatedly for Y-Drive/U-Ride pickups?

For something like ~6 months now, a woman has been using my home address to get picked up and dropped off by ride share services as well as the local taxi company.

The drop offs are brief and unnoticeable usually, but for pickups I've had drivers parking in my driveway waiting for 10+ minutes, my front doorbell getting rung by drivers trying to pick her up, and have had issues pulling in/out of my driveway due to these cars parked in or around my driveway. I also share a driveway with the neighbour, and so a lot of the time the drivers pull directly into the middle of the paved surface and blocking not just my driveway but also the neighbour beside me (as happened today).

A couple weeks ago I stepped outside and waited for the woman to walk to the car and asked her politely to please not use my address in the future. She seemed apologetic and afterwards I didnt notice it happening for a week or so, but sure enough its happening again.

Now, in my earlier years I've had experience with addiction/substances so I know the signs. Its blatantly obvious to me, for many reasons, the house she's coming from each and every time is dealing drugs, which explains why they dont want her using their address for pickups/drop offs. And I hope understandably, I really dont want my address associated with whatever they're up to either.

Since it was Y-Drive she used today, I called Y-Drive dispatch and explained my concerns. "Raza" sounded mostly uninterested and tried to claim that he would never be able to do anything if i couldn't identify the account phone number associated with the ride requests. I told him that it had just happened again minutes before I called him, and after some initial protesting he eventually agreed to search and was able to identify the most recent account that used the address. Realistically it took him longer to claim he couldn't do anything and couldnt find the account, than it did to actually find the account.

He then tried to claim that he can't stop people from requesting rides at any address. I reminded him that his service can of course choose to refuse servicing addresses or accounts that are fraudulently abusing the service. He asked what I wanted him to do about it, and i asked that they prevent their drivers/service from using my address when associated with that account. He sighed and gave some thoroughly uninspiring claim of forwarding this to management and that he would follow up with me, but I'm not exactly holding my breath. As of end of day, no response yet.

Is there any recourse or resolution on some level for this? Do I have any rights as a property owner in this scenario? Are there any relevant bylaws applicable in this case regarding taxi and ride share services?

Expanding while using PAP mask

I have to keep my mask straps pretty tight for my F20 mask to stop leaks (even then its not 100% successful)

I'm concerned whether the strap pressures from a PAP therapy mask like the F20 or F30i would be problematic during expansion? Would it create pressure that reduces your likelihood of splitting?

Unfortunately a nasal mask is not an option for me. I have tried it in the past with mouth tape, cervical collar, etc and i have terrible quality sleep. Mouth breathing is essential for me while using pap.

Replacing reliance gas hot water tank -- any experience/advice?

Our home came with a natural gas hot water tank rental from Reliance which is only 5 years old. Its having some issues and I'm thinking this might give an opportunity for us to get out of our Reliance contract as of course they are notoriously bad from a financial perspective.

Has anyone dealt with this scenario with Reliance? What was your experience?

Did you replace with a tankless or regular model? Did you buy your replacement yourself individually or did you simply pay an installer to do the whole thing ? What brand/model unit did you choose?

Did you call a plumber or HVAC company to do the swap? Who or what company would you recommend?

Persona verification disappeared?

Ive been a WS client for at least 4 years or so. Signed up before Persona was a thing.

Several weeks ago I was finally "notified!" (after probably 2 years or so of waiting) that I was eligible to apply for the credit card.

I immediately began the application but my account was flagged to complete the Persona ID Verification. Due to privacy and ethical concerns, I contacted CS and sent a few emails to WS staff regarding my concerns. None were helpful and gave me zero option but to comply with Persona requirements.

Instead of complying, i simply did nothing. I began transferring some money out slowly in case my whole account was locked. Otherwise I kept using WS as normal. A few days ago i noticed the yellow banner instructing me to complete the Persona verification was gone from my account, as well as my in progress CC application.

So on Thursday I decided to try another CC application. This time, there was no forced Persona. The application was paused until they could call me to verify, as i have a requirement for that on file with Equifax and TransUnion. They gave me a simple 30s phone call to verify I requested the card, and then I was able to continue the application.

Finished the application today and now I'm just waiting on the physical card. I dont know if this is a glitch or if WS is backing down at least partially on this mandatory Persona ID Verification?

For what its worth, until WS makes a clear statement that they are planning to use alternative Canadian ID Verification partners I will still be withholding committing some funds with them and I would encourage everyone to do the same. I hope they will do the right thing in the end, but, I'm not holding my breath.

Just wanted to share a datapoint for others about my experience here.

(ON) Service records rubbed off from panel ESA sticker

I bought a house in 2021 and this ESA sticker was properly filled out with signature and date. As you can see, at some point this got rubbed off. I'm not sure if it was my previous basement tenant or if it got rubbed off somehow when I was having some work done at some point.

I suspect before we bought the house there was some unpermitted electrical work done with some renovations, but, there have been no issues whatsoever in 5 years of typical usage.

I am considering selling the house in the next year.

What should I do from this point forward? Should I have a contractor come and inspect the home and recertify it? Should I have the company see if they can re-issue a properly dated sticker? Or should i just leave it alone? I assume this would cause issues for a new owner trying to get insurance on the property.

"Herky-jerky-lurchy" 2020 CX5 GT -- finally a significant improvement!

Girlfriend bought a used 2020 CX5 GT ~3 years ago with about 68k kms on it. Over time we began to really notice the incredibly irritating issue that countless others have reported with the low speed "jerkiness", "jumpiness", "lurching" etc.

We had tried multiple transmission re-learns which would perhaps mask the issue slightly for a short period, but never completely resolve it. We had also taken it to Mazda last year and requested they check for a software update, and they updated either the TCM or PCM (can't remember which or if they did both), without much noticeable improvement.

However, finally, this year I can report that things have improved significantly.

First big improvement came a few weeks ago, when we brought the car back to Mazda complaining of the same issues again. They checked software updates AGAIN, and they updated the TCM. I'm not sure if Mazda has released a newer update this year or what, but, I can say there seems to be something significant that has changed. The bursts of torque as the transmission shifts up/down (or CDA goes on/off?) are far less noticeable. I'd say the issue felt like ~60% better after this update. it was way more tolerable but not completely gone.

As we are now approaching 100k kms, I also had her schedule an appointment to get her transmission drain/filled + filter changed, as well as her TC and rear diff fluids changed. The dealership of course never recommended this when we complained about the jerkiness issue, but after doing a lot of reading here I figured this was worth getting done for basic maintenance purposes anyway. I didnt expect much improvement in terms of driving smoothness.

But after picking up the car this afternoon, the car is shifting/driving how I would imagine almost new must feel like. Less hesitation on acceleration, smoother shifting, just overall a much nicer and smoother experience. Really makes me wonder if the transmission was originally underfilled, like some others have reported. I feel like this got us another 30% of the way to feeling like the car drives 100% smoothly.

So, it might be a bit early to claim 100% perfection with this herky jerky lurchy low speed issue, but, honestly I'm pretty quite happy with how much improvement we've gotten on an issue that most have characterized as hopeless and said "its just the way it is". Most importantly, she is happier driving it now.

So If you're still struggling with this problem, it might be worth checking software updates and doing fluid changes to see if that might help for you.
