Why do young people from X religion seem to be becoming more openly religious, while those from Y and Z religions appear to be becoming less religious?
I belong to the so called Gen Z generation. Growing up, religion always felt like something very personal. At least in my circle, openly posting religious quotes, putting up religious Instagram stories or WhatsApp statuses, or wearing religious symbols felt... embarrassing. I still feel that way. I don't wear anything related to my religion in public because, somewhere in my mind, it feels like I'd get the not cool badge if I did.
But when I look at young people from X religion many of my friends proudly post religious content on Instagram and WhatsApp. They naturally use religious phrases while talking, and they seem completely comfortable expressing their faith in public.
When they do that, it surprises me not because I dislike it, but because it makes me wonder why they can do it so confidently while I feel awkward doing the same.
I'm also not sure if it's always out of devotion, because I've seen many people openly display their religion while also doing things that their own religion considers sinful. Another thing I've noticed is that many young people from X religion strongly support celebrities, businesses, restaurants, and shops if they're from their own religion, if you ask them they are not even really familiar with their work.
They seem to prioritize their own community in many aspects of life. I could understand this if it were mostly older people, but what surprises me is that these are people my own age. I'm not trying to criticize anyone or start an argument. I'm genuinely curious about why this shift is happening.
