Once again I have had the luck to end up in the vicinity of a couple with 2 toddlers on my 5 hour train ride. I’m already sleep deprived, I only slept 4 hours the last 3 nights and I’m a girl who needs 9 so you can figure out how my mood is. Also I forgot to pack the pants I specifically bought for this trip, but that’s another story.

I’ve mostly ignored them by napping (neck pillow + earplugs combo got pulled out) but I’m sitting in a seat that faces the family so I can’t help but notice what’s going on. Since they stepped onto this train the 2 small kids are clinging to their mother while the dad does absolutely nothing. She held the smallest kid on her lap while the other sat in the seat next to her, meanwhile the dad sat in the free seats in the other row next to her.

When mum had to go to the toilet one of the toddlers chanted “mummy I need to too! Me too!” So she took the girl with her, I swear after not even 5 seconds alone in his seat the boy starts crying for her and loudly shouts “mummy! mummy! where are you?!” through the entire train. Do you think dad ever moved from his seat and explained to that kid where his mum went?! No, he just let him run up and down the carriage looking for his mum and sister.

In general the mother had to go quite often, either she had to or one of the kids. The dad hasn’t taken them to the toilet AT ALL. And every time that boy acts confused as fuck where she suddenly went? I was SO close to tell him to sit back down, stop screaming and that mummy needs to pee in peace. But that would be wrong cause “it takes a village” until the village disciplines your kids. Dad didn’t say anything, nobody said anything. I understand that the poor kids are completely dependent on the mother because dad tbh just looks uninterested the entire time like he already mentally checked out because how can you watch your child run up and down a train looking for a person when you KNOW your partner just went to take a piss alone? Scratch that, she never even got to pee alone.

He never has his eyes on them ever. And when one of them sat with him they wanted “mummy! mummy! MUMMY!” so he wordlessly handed them back to her. What the fuck?

The only thing he just did was get their suitcases. Then he walked to the door alone while poor mommy had to carry the girl and hold the son with her other hand all while having a huge backpack on.

They have left. I’m finally left with the blissful silence. I see them screeching for mummy on the platform while dad just stands there. Never been more grateful for my bisalp ✨

i'm sure everyone is aware of the heatwave that's running its course in europe right now and how AC isn't a thing in northern europe so I won't elaborate on it. but just to paint a picture: yesterday it hit 41°C and i'm lucky my bedroom is on the north side, so no direct sunlight heats up my room – it's still 32°C inside & the only dyson fan we have is getting hogged by my mum going through menopause (her room is on the sunside and reached 35°C so I let her keep it).

I'm somewhat of a light sleeper, I need the curtains drawn because I need it to be dark & quiet to sleep. it's so extremely hot though that I keep getting woken up by literal droplets of sweat running down my skin, so the window needs to stay open. there is 0 wind, so no chance of a breeze, but it's better than cooking in a closed room. temperatures dropped to 22°C at 4am but when I woke up around 3am it was still 29°C in my room. that's beside the point though.

i'm already starting to get aggressive due to the heat, which is super unlike me, but something just really agitates me: the sun starts to rise at like 4 so I already get woken up multiple times not only due to the heat but also the light, then the swallows go crazy right next to my window and to top it all off: a small child screams HELLO! HELLO! HELLO! every 3 seconds at 5am sharp. It's not even my next door neighbour or anything, it sounds quite distant but whatever pair of lungs that child possesses carries the screaming across the entire block right into my bedroom.

I have no clue why it screeches hello like that, I can only assume it's standing in front of the parents' bedroom door trying to wake them up. it grates on my nerves. it goes on and on for at least half an hour & it took everything in me not to scream back to just shut their stupid kid up. it's the third day in a row. yesterday it started screeching and crying for something like a brat which woke up a baby in another apartment, making it scream too. I don't get it! the houses arent even close! why are they so loud!

anyway just needed to rant. I cannot believe it's almost impossible to sleep with the window open. and yes the birds annoy me too. I havent slept properly in 3 days. I have a final on wednesday. weekend's going swell!

To preface this: I bought the game on Switch last summer but haven't played much since last year's summer break, because I'm finishing up my master's. I have unlocked and maxed out all the "friends" as well as the moon and am working on Moppu right now. The only thing I've been procrastinating on is the 10K flower quest and Hello Kitty's bow because I haven't had the time yet to sit down and figure out how to grow that red flower I'm missing to craft the bow. I'm also close to finishing the narwhal quest, just to give you some sort of frame of where I am in the gameplay. Haven't unlocked the greenhouse, though.

I didn't plan on buying the DLC, at least not so "soon" (for me). But I have just received an e-mail from Nintendo that both DLCs are on sale – wheatflour wonderland is 40% off and City Town is -20%. I heard mixed opinions on Wheatflour Wonderland, but since it's almost half the price now, I'm considering it.

The sale is until next week, so I still have time to decide, but I would like your opinion on it! I'll get to play lots next month when I have handed in my thesis, so the sale is perfect timing.

I've witnessed a heated conversation about marital finances today, which made me think a lot about where I stand within that topic (it was about a husband not knowing his wife had a secret safety net; he was pissed she "cheated" (kept it a secret) & that they didn't use that money to get rid of their debt).

To preface this: I am not married, I'm as far from marriage as one can be. Still in uni, 23 years old and a single woman. So I acknowledge my lack of knowledge, personal experiences and insight regarding marriage and finances overall. I do not wish to be married in my 20s anyway, but I figured my future partner and I would be on the same page or at least openly discuss our positions.

Due to things that have happened to my mother, and just generally being raised by hearing "never depend on a man, ever", I would like to keep finances separate, with a joint bank account for whatever married people need to pay - I assume dates, groceries, utilities, rent, etc. Obviously, everyone contributes a % according to their income, not strictly 50/50. I don't get the whole "our" bill thing; if I buy something, it's my bill and vice versa. If you fuck up and accumulate a huge debt in your name, sure, I'll help, but why should I give every cent I have and go into debt too? If I have my own student loans, why am I expected to contribute to yours, too?

But that just might be my immaturity regarding that topic speaking, as I've said above. As of right now, I'm clueless about that part of life (and have never loved someone like that, maybe that's the difference?).

ANYWAY, since everyone here is free of the financial burden that kids are, I just wanted to ask around how the married portion of this sub handles these things! I would love to hear your experience/reasoning, etc.

Obviously, I don't want to start a fight where everyone gets downvoted to oblivion just because they do it differently; it's just interesting to me. Please be civil and do state your age and perhaps country as well, because those are huge factors imo.

Also, you're welcome to enlighten me on some points I have stated!! I never thought too much about it because it's nothing imminent to me. Keep in mind that I'm in Europe though, so things might be different here. If something I said is really stupid, still be kind about it please.
