Speed dating / Singles Nights in Glasgow - thoughts? Experiences?

I came out of a long term relationship a few months ago, and I'm ready to get back into the scene to date seriously! 👍

I was thinking of attending some of the speed dating and singles nights that's happening around Glasgow, and was just wondering what peoples' experiences/thoughts are about it all. I've never been to one myself in my entire life, so I have no idea what to make of it.

I'm 34, male, take care of myself (physically and emotionally) and really enjoy meeting new people and communicating. I reckon they would be fun, but if it's just all men (i'm straight) then I'd give it a miss, or if they're poorly run? Absolutely no idea what I'm saying here. Please give me your wisdom, thanks.

I just passed 20k savings in my Cash ISA!

I think this is more of a self-celebratory post than anything.

One of my 12 month savings accounts matured, so I transferred it all into my Cash ISA, and I'm sitting at just over 20k in my cash ISA now!!

I know that this might be in poor taste, given how folks are struggling at the moment with money, so I realise that I am really really fortunate to be in the position that I am in, but I'm just really happy with this milestone.

I'm still scared to goes Stocks and Shares ISA just yet (I'm just a shitebag), so I'll continue with my Cash ISA and just being sensible with my spending habits.

Thoughts on Tesco worker harassing me over reduced items?

I need some perspective about what just happened to me at my local tesco express, please.

To give some background, I am a 34 year old Chinese man. 5 foot 7. No unique features from any other typical chinese man. This is relevant information for later on.

Currently in some branches of Tesco in Scotland (not sure if it's the case in other parts of the country), they're making it so that any of the reduced yellow sticker items with CS on them are free from 9:30pm onwards.

I don't really aim to be at the store around this time, but on occasion I've found myself needing a few bits and bobs at aroundish that time, then time it so that I'm in the store in or around 9:30pm to get any nice sandwiches for free, then whatever else I need to pay for, then to checkouts and out.

Never had an issue with this until this evening.

I popped in at around 9:25, got a basket, headed to the reduced section, had a quick look, and took about 4 or 5 things. Was done with the reduced item bit at around 9:26/27 (I like to read nutrition stuff, so sometimes read a bit). During that time, 1 or 2 people came next to me and also picked stuff up from the reduced item section.

When I was done with that section, I moved over to frozen to get some Quorn nuggets and frozen veg. While I was there, one of the staff member comes up to me and says:

"Hey. You can't do that."

I said "What?", a bit confused.

"You can't take stuff from the reduced section then walk about the store and keep it until 9:30."

".... I've taken some items from the reduced section, and I'm shopping right now. You can literally see the nuggets in my basket."

"It doesn't matter. You're not allowed to take stuff from the well until it's 9:30."

"Is that store policy?" I said.

"Yes. We've had issues with people taking it well before 9:30 and keeping it, and there have been fights."

At this point, I didn't really care, since I was tired and just wanted to leave, so I said "Okay. I didn't know that was the store policy. I'll make sure not to take stuff until 9:30pm."

BUT THEN he said: "And I'm pretty sure you've been told before not to do that."

Again, first time I have ever been approached in tesco by a member of staff. At this point, I felt the pang of indignance of being accused of something that wasn't true. So I said:

"This is the first time anyone has talked to me in this store about this. What are you talking about?"

"You were told before that you couldn't keep stuff until 9:30, and here you are doing it again."

"This is the first time I've spoken to you in my life."

He said: "It wasn't me you were speaking to. It was one of my colleagues."

I said "Well are they here? Let's speak to them and see if they've ever spoken to me."

He said: "They're not here right now."

"So how do you know they spoke to me?"

He said: "Because they told me that they spoke to someone who looks like you."

I then said: "What? They spoke to a Chinese man, so it must be me?"

To give more background, the chinese population of Glasgow is HUGE at the moment, largely owing to the University of Glasgow's International Students.

I went on to say: "I notice you didn't approach the white people who also took some of the reduced items around me, and you haven't stopped that guy (there was a guy at the reduced section) from taking stuff before 9:30. Are you going to go talk to them?"

He said "I will."

I said "It's 9:29 mate. It's not like I was taking the piss taking them at 9:10 and walking about the store. I'm getting some stuff then heading to checkouts."

He said "It was 2 mins ago that we started talking."

I said "So 9:27 mate. What are you actually doing?"

He then said "Do we have a problem?" while staring at me.

I then said "Look, I'm going to get my items, then go. Why don't you go talk to that guy picking up reduced items."

I then left, went to pay, then went back to him, got his name and left.

What are your thoughts? What should I do?

I obviously feel a bit harassed from all of this. Potentially racially profiled. Whole interaction just felt so unnecessary.

EDIT: Thanks All. Just emailed head office with the above details.
