Kickstarter takes back NSFW ban and what this means for indie otome

See here for the rules they attempted to implement previously. Read the linked article for more information on the ban being reverted and potential risks/issues that can arise from adult otome projects.

With KS reverting back to their old policy when it comes to adult content this means indie otome devs can once again launch campaigns for their R18 games and we can support them!

While this is a good thing, things staying exactly the way they are forever is unlikely as Stripe still has far too much sway still leaving indie otome creators in a precarious position. This is a temporary fix due to the backlash they received but they're still looking into changing the rules at some point due to issues with Stripe. Backerkit might also be another alternative (likely temporary since they use Stripe too) if things go South with Kickstarter again.

Otome gamers can celebrate this victory right now though, spread the word so this reaches indie otome devs or those that aspire to be that were discouraged by Kickstarter's previous changes!

Kickstarter's NSFW ban and the future of indie otome

A lot of otome games are funded through Kickstarter, including adult games, and this is going to change what our indie otome creators can crowdfund from here on out and effect the games we will and won't get in the future.

This is very disheartening, especially after what happened with itch.io last year. Indies in general are in a precarious position but the otome genre is a niche within a niche, adult elements making it even more so. 18+ otome games are going to be even fewer and far between than they were before.
