Pork Recipes

It seems the bulk of my late mother’s recipe booklets were for either rice or pork. We raised pigs so I can see the pork recipes. We didn’t grow rice but I guess it was the cheapest way to feed a family of 9.

I haven’t tried any of these recipes but plan to.

Pork for All Occasions

I especially like the cooking times and temeratures in general festured in this little booklet.

This is another booklet from my late mother’s hoarding stash. I don’t recall her ever making anything from here. This is the first I’ve seen it so I haven’t made anything either.

If you would like a link to my Ondrive files with these booklets and my mom’s and grandmother’s handwritten recipes send me your email in a message and I’ll send them to you.

Martha White’s Scandinavian Christmas

This is one of the smaller booklets in my late mother’s recipe hoard. It has a foreward by Tennessee Ernie Ford. If you don’t know who that is (and even if you do) thst shows how old this is.

I haven’t made any of these recipes. If you try any please let me know. The Butter Wreathes especially sound good.

The Jell-o Pages from Jell-o Gelatins & Puddings

I actually have a copy of this booklet that I got at the same time as my mom. It was published in 1987 so the year I married my first husband.

I have only made 2 recipes out of this book: Fast and Fabulous Fruit page 16 (great for an easy sweet treat, I made it with pineapple and cottage cheese, haven’t tried any other variation) and Striped Delight page 24 (I have made it as is and also substituting non-sugar sweetener and sugar free Cool Whip, tasted the same).

Yeast Booklet

The cover got torn off of this at some point. It is a Fleischmann’s Yeast booklet. This is from either my mom’s or grandma’s collection. I’m guessing this is from the 50’s or 60’s based on the woman’s dress. It may even be 70’s. Let me know if you know. Thanks!

If you can’t read something or try one of these recipes, please let me know.

Metropolitian Cook Book part 1

1957 small cook book from my grandmother. It was from Metropolitian Life Insurance. She was the same grandma who wrote “rubbage” on the cane syrup booklet.

I’m not sure of her thoughts on these recipes but at least she didn’t write anything derogatory on the cover! :)

I’ve had to split it into 2 parts because I just can’t exclude any one recipe.

Let me know if you can’t read anything or if you make anything from this book.

A Taste of Southern Cooking with Alaga Syrup

I think this was my grandmother’s. She evidently wasn’t impressed with it since she wrote “rubbage” on it. 😂

I didn’t know what Alaga syrup was so looked it up. It is a brand name for cane syrup.

Special Celebrations with Rice

Another booklet from my late mother’s stash. It makes about 4 that are rice based. I don’t remember having a lot of rice dishes at home but she must have wanted to use what she could cheaply buy to feed us. There were 9 in our family and she had to be frugal.

I haven’t tried any of these but would like to hear your comments and if you’ve ever tried one of these.

Cooking With Sweet ‘N Low part 1

This is a great recipe booklet for diabetics. Copyright 1965 so it is one year younger than me. :)
This is another recipe booklet from my mom’s stash. Since there are so many recipes I will have to divide it into 2 posts. So check back here tomorrow for part 2. Tomorrow’s bunch includes a chart to determine your ideal weight :/

Cookie of the Month Book

For the person who asked for desserts. This was the first one I found in my mother’s stack. To those who don’t know, she passed over 10 years ago and was a hoarder. One of the things she hoarded was recipes. I hope to get the right recipe to the right person at the right time so these can get in the right hands. Thanks for being a part of this. I didn’t see a date on this booklet but figure it’s from the 50’s or 60’s.

Flavor Sparkling Recipes with Tang

1968 recipe booklet from my mom’s stash. We recently went through some of her things for my dad. She was a hoarder who passed away over 10 years ago. One of the things she collected was recipes. I have scanned over 250 handwritten ones and there are these booklets and magazine clippings to scan eventually.

I hope somebody can find a recipe that they enjoy cooking and makes a great dish.

Brer Rabbit Book of Molasses Magic

“Warmest hello to you—

Know what I’ve been thinking?

I’ve been thinking that in this day of packaged, frozen, ready-mixed, ready-made living, maybe we’re missing out on some of the fun. The real fun! The genuine fun that bubbles in our own imagination. Our own personal touched. Our own ingenuity. You know—like the kind momma’s momma had— ‘way back when.

Isn’t it funny—hardly anyone says, any more, “You must give me your recipe for that wonderful gingerbread.” Hardly anyone says, “Now that’s what I call home-baked beans!” Hardly anyone says, “You must have spent the whole day in the kitchen.”

Well, bless the nice men who took us out of the kitchen with all of their automatic wonders. And yet, it just might add a little more to our lives . . . make every day just a tiny bit richer . . . if we could put back some of yesterday’s own special magic. Magic that turns a simple dinner into something memorable, an old standby dessert into “Um-m-m-m . . . What’s this?” Even a familiar cup of coffee into a whole new experience.

And that’s what I’ve been thinking.

And that’s my readson for putting this book together just for you. No complicated concoctions. No millionaires’ menus. Just simple, homey, pleasant ideas I hope you’ll find will put some of yesterday’s magic into today’s life.

Of course, all of my magic is as easy as pulling a rabbit (Brer Rabbit, please) from a hat. Use it well. And do have fun.

Ruth Jordan”

Quaker Oats Tin Recipe Booklet

These were found amongst my deceased mother’s recipe collection. She sent off for the cookie tin and these recipes were in the tin.

Pepperidge Farms Quick ‘N’ Easy Patty Shell Primer

I’m not sure how old this recipe booklet is. We were cleaning out some of my parents’ things and came across lots of recipes my mom had saved. She’s been gone since 2014 so these are at least that old.
