No I'm not a bot, and no I'm not in a "commercial environment".

I might not allow every piece of trash javascript on every page on the internet to run by default, but that does not make me either a bot or a malicious user either.

If SP wants to run 300 JS actions from unknown domains for their "security checks", then they'd better be clear about that (so I can consider unblocking it on my side), BEFORE they go banning longtime users that have brought them significant revenue over the years via browser partner customized search links and so on.

I really am on my last nerve with this site.

More often than not they are forcing me to wait anywhere from 10 to 60 seconds to get a result now and if it goes beyond 10s I just send the query to DDG instead which gives me an INSTANT response. 🙄🙄

Still no crosspost feature?

I searched and only found a single relevant post here about crossposting, from seven years ago, that said RR does not support crossposting.

Is this still true?

I have explicit permission to do a crosspost in a particular group but for some reason it's not working on my usual desktop machine despite everything looking normal in the editor until I actually press the "submit" button, where it does not respond.

So if I can't do it with RR I'm stuck. (EDIT: I was finally able to do it on desktop after trying for like the 10th time. But I'd still like to know if RR can or cannot do a crosspost)

Documentation / FAQ?

I have basic questions about basic settings and I cannot find any docs anywhere.

Nothing in settings or linked in settings, and nothing on the Github page.

Are there some docs somewhere?

Current question is trying to figure out what the difference is for sort settings that pertain to Posts or Comments, versus "User" Posts or Comments.

Thanks

"Is Moderator" field

If you long press a comment, select "User Profile", then select "More info", there is a field called "Is Moderator".

Yesterday I did this and that field was displaying "True", despite the fact that the account that made that comment was not listed as a moderator on the sub that comment was posted in.

Am I misunderstanding what that field is supposed to represent?

Does it actually mean they are moderator anywhere on Reddit or something??

Is Telegram updating your app WITHOUT ASKING YOU now?

I run Telegram on pretty much all the supported platforms and I never update to the latest Telegram releases because of all the bugs.

But today because something was not working right I decided that I would update my MacOS native client to the last 12.8 version. (There was just one newer build - a 12.9 build - which was newer)

Now I go into the settings and it's telling me that it's already running 12.9????

WTH?

I DID NOT WANT TO INSTALL THAT.

SFPD blatantly lied to NBC reporters about so-called "improper access" to license-plate-reader data

Two days ago a Redditor posted a link in this sub to an NBC Bay Area article from June 19th (Byline: Bay City News) where we learn that sensitive personal data which was collected by its network of Flock corp. license-plate readers installed all over the city had been "improperly" forwarded on to external law-enforcement and other government agencies, some of them outside of California.

Quoting anonymous "police" sources, the article goes on to say that this revelation was supposedly "discovered" by SFPD "...through regular audits" sometime in May 2026.

The article goes on to state:

"San Francisco police said their data was accessed by the Northern California Regional Intelligence Center and the Western States Information Network. > > "NCRIC and WSIN's access to SFPD ALPR network currently remains disabled," police said.

The article's "police" source was further quoted stating:

> "Upon discovering the improper searches, Chief Derrick Lew immediately turned off NCRIC's access to SFPD's ALPR system and initiated an internal review," police said.

.

That's all quite interesting, since back in 2019 when the California State Auditor sent requests to all California law-enforcement agencies asking about their usage of such surveillance systems, the SFPD explicitly pointed out in a free-form notes section of the query form that:

> "SFPD ALPR reads are stored by NCRIC"

.

"Oops".

XDA Forums

I cannot find anywhere else to ask this so I'll try asking here.

I don't spend much time on xda-developers these days because the site was sold and ruined. But xdaforums.com still seems to be somewhat useful. (I think it's a separate owner now)

But when trying to make a comment today it seemed like they were screwing around with JS tricks to block various actions like copying and pasting. Is this just my imagination?

If anyone knows of an existing user script to block that crap on that site I'd appreciate a link. I couldn't find anything in the usual places.

Thanks

FAQ on consumable policies by vendor? (Color laser MFP is what I'm looking for atm)

I did not see any sort of FAQ here on this.

I have a client who needs a replacement for their Epson Workforce MFP because the printhead is apparently shot after over 10 years of use. No complaints about that lifespan!

It's been a while since I've looked at printers, and I find all these consumable rental/lease schemes annoying. I'm inclined to suggest a laser for them this time to avoid all the head cleaning/wear/ink usage issues.

They own a few B/W Laserjet Enterprise models which seem just as sturdy and reliable as the classic Laserjets, we can use built-in Windows drivers (no bloated HP S/W) and no consumables shenanigans. But HP seems to get lousy reviews for their color laser MFPs and seem to have some of the worst consumable policies nowadays.

So before I spend hours and hours trying to figure out what all the vendor consumable policies are on every model, thought I would ask here first.

Lots of people seem to like Brother for being straightforward etc but I've seen here that they have "rental/contract" locked models too.

What about Canon?

Thunderbolt 3 SSD periodically dismounts itself

> Mini 2018 running Sequoia
> 1TB Samsung 970 in TB3 enclosure with Intel chip
> Plugged directly to USB-C port on the Mini with a high-quality, short cable.

Every once in a blue moon - 4-6 months could elapse between occasions - I'll be working on very small tasks like editing a couple of very small text files - my external SSD will just go 'poof' and dismount itself.

In between those rare occasions, everything works totally 100% fine.

This drive which I call "BulkData" has no OS files on it, I just store things like ISOs, VM disks, and software installers on it. So every change that happens on that drive I have to manually initiate.

The drive barely has any usage, all the health indicators (as per DriveDX or smartmontools etc) are perfect.

I always run First Aid on the drive when that happens in case something got corrupted, or there's something wrong with the drive etc. Up until now, never had any errors show up after such events. Until today.

I ran FirstAid and checked the container for the "BulkData" volume. *

I got the errors shown below. FirstAid fixed the corruption issue, but no matter what I do the inode/xattr errors persist. Running First Aid on all the drive entities, restarting, even checking my TimeMachine drive which I only connect when I'm doing TimeMachine backups, and leaving it mounted, thinking maybe that's related because one of the check log entries for some reason mentions a snapshot on the external TimeMachine machine volume. (External USB 3 HDD)

No matter what I do, it keeps reporting the inode/xattr issue for two inodes. Any suggestions where to go from here? Ignore? Use a different method to fix? Delete snapshot manually? And why this drive a few times a year just decides to disappear when everything is perfect the rest of the time?

I run Telegram on multiple devices, two of them are on Windows.

Also I do not update Telegram as soon as new versions come out due to bugs.

This week I installed 6.6.2 on those two devices and in addition to changing the application folder (added a subfolder "Telegram Desktop" to my longtime custom folder) it removed my theme settings and set it to some new default I don't like.

Strangely it did not INITIALLY kill my existing theme on device #1, but after I opened it on that device to check the themes after I had the problem on device #2, it blocked those themes too.

Is it related to this theme change issue?

https://www.reddit.com/r/Telegram/comments/1r1w80m/telegram_new_theme_2026/

The weird thing is that my custom themes are displayed in settings but when I try to select them it pops up this message:

> You can create desktop part of your theme based on your currently selected colors and wallpaper. Alternatively, you can import existing theme or color palette from file > >Import existing theme > > CANCEL CREATE

If I try to find an existing theme to import, I cannot find any copies of these files in the format "*.tdesktop-theme" that it asks for.

Is there any way to recover my old theme or does this new theme mechanism override all the old ones and I have to start over from scratch?? 😕
