Is GenX the last "thinking" generation?
Serious question: do people younger than Gen X use common sense anymore?
Gen X seems to have more critical thinking power than surrounding generations and maybe being a part of Gen X and having the critical thinking skill, I have an expectation that other people should be able to grasp the simpler concepts... but, it seems not to be the case.
I see this type of low brain power again and again and again... and well... I have to vent I guess.
Last night this local solar company was going door to door in my neighborhood. I've been interested in solar for a while but it is still too expensive but I was willing to hear them out. Honestly, I don't care much about going solar for the environment... I'm just tired of paying $400-$600 electric bills... and anyone in the know... is fully aware that production of renewable devices is anything but environmentally friendly.
The person they sent to my door was clearly there to get attention of eyes first and ears later. She was young, very cute and dressed in her little tight yoga pants putting out heavy flirt vibes. I get it... snag the pervy old men's attention to "get in the door", right?
Fortunately I'm truly interested in solar and I don't need young tight yoga pants to snag my ear... and maybe that makes me come off a little rough because "cute lil girl in the tight pants isn't going to get any special favor"
That being said... the actual conversation was painful.
My house was built in 1961, then had a big addition added in 2010. So it looks like there are two sections, but it is all one house.
She pointed at the addition and asked, “Does someone live on that side of the house?”
I replied “This is all one house.”
Then she asked “But does someone live upstairs?”
I said again “This is all just one house.”
Then she said, “So no one lives up there?” (point to my area above the garage)
At that point I had to explain, “Yes. I live up there. I live in the whole house. That is how a house works.”
Then she said she did not know if I rented out that half of the house.
I just stared at her for a moment.
I get asking a question once. That is fine. But when someone says, “It is all one house,” that should be enough. It means one family lives there. It means it is not split up. It means exactly what the words say.
Maybe I am just getting old, but it feels like basic common sense has become rare.
The rest of the conversation wasn't any better.
She left without success.
