I'm looking for advice from people who know the Toyota GT86 / Subaru BRZ and the FA20 engine well, because I honestly don't know what decision to make about my car anymore.

A while ago, I started noticing a ticking/knocking noise coming from the engine. I checked the oil level and found that it was very low. I topped it up, and the noise became noticeably quieter, but it didn't completely disappear.

The noise seems to be related to engine RPM, which obviously made me concerned about a serious internal engine problem.

So I took the car to a garage for a diagnosis.

The garage's diagnosis

According to the garage, the noise is coming from the bottom end of the engine, meaning there is likely a serious internal engine problem.

They told me there was metal debris in the engine oil, and that the crankshaft was likely to have play.

However, they came to this conclusion without actually opening the engine, so I obviously don't know how accurate the diagnosis is at this point.

The garage basically gave me the following options:

• Replace the entire engine with a used FA20.
• Replace it with a brand-new engine, although the cost would be extremely high.
• Open up and rebuild the current engine, inspecting and replacing whatever internal components are damaged.
• Or potentially not repair the car at all, considering the cost compared to the car's value.

The problem is that I absolutely love this car and I'd really like to save it if there is a sensible way of doing so.

What would you do?

If you were in my situation, would you:

• Have the engine opened up first to get a proper diagnosis?
• Rebuild the original FA20?
• Look for a good used engine instead?
• Or simply accept that it's not worth saving?

For those who have experienced FA20 engine failures or rebuilds on a GT86/BRZ, what did you end up doing, and roughly how much did it cost?

I'm mainly looking for real-world experiences and advice from people who actually know these engines.

I own a 2003 Lexus IS300 that I'm going to 3UZ-FE + Stock 3UZ ECU 8HP50 swap + Turbolamik TCU. This will be my fun and reliable grocery getter/daily driver, and a 2013 Sion FRS rolling shell with no engine, transmission, driveshaft, axels or ECU that I snagged for $1300.

My question is how feasible would it be to swap my NA 2JZ-GE VVTi engine into the FRS chassis? I have no real intention on boosting the GE, just doing bolt-ons while it's out, headers, COP ignition conversion, harmonic balancer + billet tensioner, and maybe a slight head build to bring the rpm redline up to 8K.

I've seen people swap whole 2JZ-GTEs into the BRX/86/FRS, there's entire harness kits, swap harness, everything you could ever need to keep the gauges, cluster, electronics, and everything in the car working like factory. That's what I want.

My GE engine is already out, and as I'm writing this post my IS300 is waiting on the aluminum driveshaft and the Turbolamik TCU+harness, and then it'll be ready for tuning. I just want to know if my idea here is feasible and not /too/ expensive, especially because I'm not doing a turbo or anything extreme, and I'll probably keep it simple and do an 8HP45 + MaxxECU street to control the engine and transmission together.

I’m looking to grab a gt86 I’ve been looking online but if you guys have any suggestions on where to look would appreciate it. I’ve looked at Autotrader and fb marketplace

I wanted to push out my stock wheels a little further out but didn't want to run the risk of getting a Spacer that would snap on me. What are some good Spacers I could get between 15mm and 25mm that would be reliable for track use? From my understanding slip on Spacers where you replace the studs are the most reliable but am having a hard time finding them.

I knew these cars had a torque dip at around 4k rpm but holy shit this car will deadass feel like it goes into neutral and I’m just reving it to make sound until it hits 5k. I’m not trynna spend more then like 1k$ total so what’s the cheapest way to fix it

I'm down to two, that are both available in my location. Help me decide.
