I'm currently heading the technology section for a startup. However recently the payout is taking too much time as well as the admin & ops team is not so responsive to my msgs, mails and dms.

I have built and manage their entire internal tech stack as well as external customer facing too.

Internal tech stack includes: managing VPS, dev/staging servers. Usage and hosting of internal tools like HRMS, ERP, company wifi, traffic proxies and making it secure from the external internet.

External stack includes: managing services on azure, ci/cd, docker deployment etc.

I'm currently looking for a good opportunity to shift to a good firm where I can put my skills into use and lead the team.

Hi All,

So I posted an ad to sell my old books on OLX. Within few mins I got a message from a guy named Agarwal. He asked for my number which I shared and afterwards he called me and asked for a good deal which is Rs100 less than from what I listed. I agreed.

He then asked me to contact on whatsapp and share my upi QR code. I shared and he called again. He shared an image which contains a QR code and written scan to receive the payment (Once I confronted him, he deleted it). Instantly I told him, buddy the scam you are playing is of old school, pls upgrade yourself and call me again. Then he blocked me and eventually I blocked him.

When I was purchasing my new bike last January 2025, I had to move my previous scooter from Punjab to Kerala. I just googled and found that Vedika Cargo Packers (vedikacargopackersandmovers.com) were the right choice as their web site looked quite professional and they have mentioned some reviews on Assureshift (assureshift.in/company/vedika-cargo-packers-and-movers).

How the scam took place

An individual impersonating himself to be one of their representatives called me on WhatsApp (phone: 9050664663). He inquired about the scooter and its pick up & drop details from me. He quoted an overall cost of transport of ₹5,000 from his end and said the following:

₹1,000 advance

₹4,000 after dispatch

There wouldn’t be any other cost involved

I agreed and paid him ₹1,000 as advance. The very same evening, their team visited and picked up the scooter successfully. Within the day, he sent me a “bill” in their company invoice format.

However, the bill consisted of many other charges and had a significantly higher amount than what he had initially quoted. When I confronted him about this, he tried to justify it with the reason being that the additional charges covered their insurance, loading/unloading of the goods, packaging, GST, and so forth. When I asked him why he did not inform me of all these before, he simply told me (paraphrasing here) that he informed me of the transportation charge only. See the bill below

After a few days, he said the scooter had been dispatched without providing any details about the dispatch. After that, he sent another bill, once again handwritten, demanding an environment/green tax from Kerala worth approximately ₹3620. Without this he said your vehicle will be stuck at Kerala border. I was like bro, its a kerala reg vehicle why would they block it?

That’s when I understood that I was being scammed. I stopped responding to his calls and messages, but he continued to call me all day long.

One day, he showed a screenshot of “tracking status” showing courier movement and current location—but without providing the tracking number. I contacted a local friend and asked them to physically visit the courier office mentioned in the screenshot to verify. The courier office asked for the phone number or tracking number, and since I had neither, they asked for the scooter RC. After submitting and retrieving the details, they confirmed the scooter location and I got access to it.

Last attempt to extort remaining money

That evening, he messaged again saying, roughly: “Sir, pay the remaining amount or my salary will be deducted—I already got confirmation from the courier that it was delivered.” Since I had already retrieved the scooter, I refused to pay. He then admitted that: “Sir, I was playing with you.”

My takeaway / warning

Please be careful when using third-party cargo movers and packers. Always get a clear, itemized written agreement in advance (including all possible taxes/fees), and don’t rely on WhatsApp promises.

Also, use verified options like India Post, Delhivery, Shadowfax, Porter, Safexpress—and ideally only deal with transport partners where tracking and documentation are transparent from the beginning.

So in total I paid INR 9,900/- (1000 + 4000 + 4900) to transport my 13 yr old scooter from Punjab to Kerala

Also in between I approached https://consumerhelpline.gov.in even they refused to help. As these are small scammers they wont even check their email or reply to the mails from consumer helpline.
