“Doug Hamlin is CEO of the NRA. In 1979 Doug and his fraternity bros tortured a kitten named BK to death and they didn’t serve a single day in jail for it. They cut BK’s paws off, strung him up and set him on fire. After completing community service, all charges expunged.

I also want to say a heartfelt thank you for your support. You are one of our regular donors, and you’re part of a small handful of incredible people whose donations make this work possible. I completely understand why you’re asking whether donating, sharing, and reporting makes a difference — and I’m so sorry you’ve had to see content like this at all.
On the specific issue of the cat torture videos connected to China, this is definitely still on our radar and we have been working on it extensively this past year. We collaborate with organizations around the world to share data, identify patterns, and develop strategies together. To strengthen our understanding in-country, we’ve also brought on a staff member based in China so we have someone who can speak directly with local organizations and contacts on the ground. She has begun engaging with social media platforms in China where this content is being shared.
In parallel, we’re also working to connect with academics and experts in China to better understand the legal and policy landscape — because ultimately, meaningful change requires stronger protections and enforcement. There is still a great deal of work to do before this issue can be eliminated, but your support helps make it possible for us to keep moving this work forward alongside our wider efforts to end animal cruelty content online.
I also want to reassure you about the impact of what you’re doing personally. Reporting helps platforms identify and remove content faster, and it helps train their detection systems to recognize the same material when it reappears. And your engagement strengthens our ability to show platforms and regulators that this is urgent, widespread, and causing real harm, which matters when we’re pushing for policy changes and accountability.
We’re approaching this work on multiple fronts — including contributing to evidence-building, engaging platforms, and supporting stronger policy and enforcement environments — and we will keep pushing for change for the cats and for all animals being exploited on social media.
As soon as we have more concrete updates we can share, we will report back. In the meantime, please know that your support truly matters, and we are deeply grateful you are standing by us, and standing by the cats.
