Hey y’all I’m a motorcycle rider fyi. I was driving not my patrol but another crossover suv today and I was switching 2 lanes after a signal legally didn’t see a car and was accelerating and switching lanes. Didn’t do it before the signal cause solid lines.

While switching to my 2nd lane at a high speed I hear a honk. It was a delivery rider who honked. I didn’t even bother switching lanes I drove the next next signal and took free right because of the shock.

Reason why I am typing this is cause I am a very careful driver in my crossover while switching lanes and it wasn’t even my patrol (in my patrol I can see sedans and bikers cause of its height etc also my patrol has heavy tint my crossover has no tint) even will my crossover he was in my blind spot and the fault would 100% be mine not his. I felt so guilty and traumatized even tho nothing happed but something could have happened.

I really wish every motorcyclist had loud exhausts to make their presence known. I didn’t have music playing in my car cause I had someone in my vehicle talking on their phone but im just assuming what if I didn’t hear the honk. Had the delivery rider not honked it would be very very bad.

My friends drive their American cars with zoomed in mirrors which is even worse.

I’m literally rn gonna buy those blind spot mirrors to use for your cars as today was a close encounter and I hope everyone reading this buys one too 🤞

Hi everyone I am from Abu Dhabi own an mt07 and honestly I suck at riding curves etc. I suck at emergency braking too. I wasn’t taught such things at learning school like how they do teach in Europe. In Abu Dhabi I would like to learn these things even on a lower cc bike I don’t mind. At curves I panic and brake and then at times overshoot at signal u turns I suck at taking them. And emergency braking I’m bad.

I saw this place in UAQ that teaches people how to drive and online a person in Dubai for off road but would honestly want advice as I’ve not really improved my riding in terms of turning in months I can drive nice on straights but sharp turns and I overshoot it at times.

TL;DR: I support the law requiring cyclists and e-scooter riders to dismount at pedestrian crossings, but I think impounding should be reserved for people who run away, not those who stop and cooperate. I also think the residential crossing rule could be reviewed.

I’ve been seeing this happen a lot in Abu Dhabi recently. Undercover officers are enforcing the rule not just at signal crossings but also at pedestrian crossings inside residential areas. I respect the law and understand why it exists.

That said, I do think the residential crossing requirement could be reconsidered. In many residential blocks, pedestrian crossings are located at almost every entrance and exit. For cyclists, constantly getting off, walking across, and getting back on every few hundred meters becomes frustrating and impractical. E-scooter riders can get moving again with a throttle, but cyclists have to stop pedaling, dismount, and build up speed repeatedly. I completely understand dismounting at busy signal crossings, but the residential crossings feel a bit excessive.

The other thing that bothers me is the enforcement. I’ve seen young riders spot undercover officers and speed off dangerously, often getting away. Meanwhile, people who stop and cooperate—especially delivery riders—are having their bikes impounded. I recently saw a delivery rider begging the officers not to take his bicycle while holding a food order. It was honestly difficult to watch, knowing he was probably losing the delivery, paying a fine, and potentially losing his means of earning a living.
I’m not saying people shouldn’t be penalized for breaking the rules. I just feel that if someone stops and cooperates, a fine should be enough. Impounding should be reserved for people who flee, repeatedly ignore the law, or create a danger to others.

P.S. This isn’t because I got fined—I haven’t. I’ve always stopped when officers signaled me. I just wanted to share something I’ve been seeing more and more often and hopefully start a respectful discussion.
