I just watched Dorothy, and now i hate how the entire concept of masculinity has been shoved in our minds since the start

First of all, this movie is a masterpiece. I could not believe my eyes from the moment it started because the storytelling is so seamless and engaging. I loved Rishikanth in Modha Ratri and seeing him in this role was such an out of body experience. Sananth is a revelation and i hope he does more work going forward.

Now coming to the movie and its portrayal of soft masculinity, I cannot help but think of a better way to describe what makes a “man” masculine. We have been fed and told this for a long time. “Men don’t cry”, “we have responsibilities”, “we don’t have time for expressing”ourselves etc etc but while watching this movie I felt so seen? I’m someone who actually feels a lot. I don’t know whether it’s due to my upbringing or i am built this way but I genuinely feel it’s very natural to express love and affection for people you like. In this movie Rishikanths character starts as a timid person but eventually turns into this tough man who seldom has time to think about things. But his characterisation in this movie is so perfect that he still has no problem in “expressing” himself.

Coming to the queer part, I value my male friendships a lot but I am yet to find a good friend who doesn’t make crass misogynistic and homophobic jokes. I put a story on my Instagram for this movie and one of my very close friends replied “gay sex aa? d*nginchkuntava? 😂” . We’ve been friends for a long time but he still passes the odd remark about things like these which irks me a lot.

Anyways, I’m glad that this movie is getting the recognition it deserves. I sat in a packed theatre where people where clapping and whistling (in a good way) which made me understand that hyd as a city may have people who are more open minded and are willing to consume content even if it makes them uncomfortable. I hope this movie resets people’s thinking about masculinity as a whole and our society becomes more inclusive and open towards soft men because masculinity isn’t repressing someone and performing as an alpha it’s about acknowledging your own emotions which by extension makes the relationships in your life more meaningful and fulfilling.

Are men who are brought up in the telugu states conservative ?

I have a nice group of friends which have a mix of people from various places like Kerala, Odisha, Karnataka etc. One of the mallu girls I’m close friends with often tends to share w me her experiences back from her college days where dating and everything is quite normal. But, she’s also of the view that men from the telugu states are very conservative and closeted in their thinking about quite basic things like marriage, consent and relationships.

She’s always very shocked when speaks to men from here and often tells me that she has never had friends with such vague and casually regressive opinions. I did not notice this in my friends till now but now when I think about it I can’t help but notice that this is actually not wrong. I understand men from other states are raised different and it changes from region to region but what makes us different?

Musings of a future 25 year old

Hi, I am a 24M. Born and brought up in the beautiful city that is Hyderabad. This is my birthday week and my anxiety won’t even let me celebrate this properly.

I’ve had a very good life I can’t lie. Most children would dream of having a life like mine. Since I’m an only child I got full attention of my parents. Always studied what I wanted to. I got whatever materialistic thing I wanted, I’ve always been healthy, but lately my life feels so off.

My last relationship was in 2020. We broke up right after Covid and after that it took me almost 4 years to get back on track academically. I landed a job in 2024, got promoted last year and I have no problems money wise but my life feels so empty regardless.

25 years old and I don’t have a single person I can call a best friend. I get very jealous when my close friends start making other friends. I haven’t traveled at all, solo or otherwise. 25 years old can you imagine? I have lived with my parents all my life and quite honestly it feels suffocating now. They care about me but I feel like they still treat me like I am 15.

But over the past few weeks (fights with my parents and friends) have made me realise how much of life I still have to see. I am pissed about my physique but I don’t go to the gym. I am frustrated because I’m not dating and I still don’t initiate conversations with women.

I am manifesting only one thing, a quarter of my life has passed. I don’t have anything to show for it. I just hope my 25th year is full of introspection, life and peace. I want to experience what it feels like to have a woman holding your hand again, I want to experience how your body feels when you are exercising regularly, I want to feel how it must be when you are with your best friends and you laugh your whole night away. I am still young but time is running out. I wish I experience everything I dream of.

Anyone to hangout near Secunderabad?

Hi, I’m 24M. I live in the west maredpally corner of Secunderabad and i am in some dire need of friends near my home. I love movies, f1, football and books. I also want some partners to play badminton and pickleball regularly. I wish I could start going to the gym but it would be so much better and fun to have someone go with me. Anyone up to make some really fun memories? I swear I won’t steal your kidneys
