Patagonia Midlayer for Vancouver Island in Fall (Mid-September)?

Hi there, I could use some help building a wardrobe for a trip to Canada in mid-September.

We'll be exploring Vancouver Island, so I'm expecting roughly mid-40s at night and mid/high-60s° during the day. We'll be on the coast, so I'm planning for some rain, and I also tend to always run cold.

Right now I have:

  • Capilene Cool Daily Long Sleeve
  • Houdini
  • Nano Puff
  • Torrentshell rain jacket for actual rain

I'm looking for a midlayer that could also work well as a standalone piece when it's cool but not raining. We'll mostly be hiking and walking along the beach (nothing super strenuous).

I've been reading a lot, but can't decide between the Nano Air Light Hybrid and the Nano Air Ultralight Hoody. It also seems like the regular Nano Air that people often recommend isn't available anymore (at least I can't find it on the REI or Patagonia website).

I'd prefer something with a more relaxed fit rather than a slim, athletic fit.

Or should I be looking at something in the R1 lineup instead? I'd love to hear what people would recommend for these conditions. Thanks!!

Ferry vs Seaplane: Immigration

Hi everyone,

We're planning to travel from Victoria to Seattle in early September and are trying to decide between the FRS Clipper ferry and Kenmore Air seaplane. We have a late evening connecting flight out of SEA the same day, so we're trying to get a realistic sense of timing and potential delays.

For anyone who has taken the Clipper recently:

  • How long did U.S. immigration/customs take when arriving in Seattle?
  • If you checked luggage, how long did it take to collect your bags after arrival?

And for anyone who has flown Kenmore Air:

  • Do you clear U.S. immigration in Victoria before departure, or after landing in Seattle?
  • Roughly how long did the immigration process take?
  • How strict were they with baggage limits/extra luggage?

We'll likely have one checked suitcase each (under 50 lbs), so I'm trying to figure out whether the seaplane's extra baggage fees might still be worth it for the time savings and lower stress.

Would really appreciate any recent experiences, timing estimates, or advice.

Thanks so much!

PS: We already have a separate seaplane tour/experience booked earlier in the trip, so this decision is really just about the most efficient and least stressful way to travel between Victoria and Seattle, not necessarily about the sightseeing experience itself :)

Hi all, we're excited to be visiting Vancouver Island for the first time this fall! We want to take a floatplane tour in Tofino and I found Atleo Air online. Their 20 min flight is $333 and their 30 min flight is $500. Has anyone flown with them before? Is the 20 min flight worth it or should I splurge and go for the 30 minute flight? Trying to figure out if 10 more minutes are worth $167.

Thanks!
