Ult tip / PSA

I don’t think I’ve seen this talked about yet. If it has, not mentioned for a long time.

Souls can rebound out of range from maelstrom, potentially leaving damage or kills on the table. You should try and make sure the stun goes off before your feet hit the ground. Why?

  1. The stun going off above ground level decreases the distance the souls rebound, making it more likely you’ll get everyone stunned by your ult hit the double damage.
  2. Doing this also can put their soul within melee range, making it much easier to kill through a support ult by yourself. A normal combo looks like this:

Primary (90) + melee (30) + MoM (260) = 380dmg

You can make it 410 damage across the same time frame if their soul is within melee range. The small damage the stun itself does gets healed off before you can perform any attack, hence why I don’t have that damage added.

You can get a similar effect by just jumping before your stun goes off. The clip is just a visual for most of what I said.

1k matches played on Strange

Per the title, I’ve finally played my thousandth match on Doc.

I am happy about the milestone, even if it means I’ve probably spent too much time playing this game. It isn’t all on one account, since I moved accounts after college, but it’s still 1000 total matches on him.

I started playing in Season 1, picked Strange up in Season 2. He’s probably the reason I’ve still played this game and how I became a tank main. He’s my only champion by a long shot and I have enjoyed tons of moments playing him.

Part of me wants to launch into a long post about other things and career stats but I won’t bore anyone with a long wall of text! Just wanted to share the milestone and say I’m proud to be a Strange main.

Advice for not one-tricking

Im looking for advice on how to just… get better at more characters or something. I’m a GM peak player that’s currently in Platinum.

I can play tank and support at the GM level with no real issue when the matches are even and I don’t mind playing those two roles. I only ever fill on dps when 2 tanks and 2 supp are pre selected (so very rarely).

I just do better on one character than the others and it isn’t exactly close, and I don’t understand why. I don’t know if I’m a legitimate otp but I’m not actively trying to be.

The image I included is my proficiency for the characters I play. The blacked out ones are characters that see very little or no playtime in competitive, so not relevant.

Some Numbers

(If you’re into that sort of thing)

Vanguard
Dr. Strange - 75% / 81%
The Hood - 65% / 55%
Magneto - 56% / 46%
*Thing - 60% / 60%

Strategist
Invisible Woman - 55% / 47%
Cloak and Dagger - 65% / 50%
Rocket - 70% / 56%
Gambit - 43% / 35%

The first number is my all time win rate across all modes, the second is my all time win rate in competitive only.

*I only ever swap to Thing for anti dive, proficiency is lvl 5 (I think).

Curious as to what I can do or what some of you think.

Why do tanks get hit with actual nerfs right away as opposed to the other roles?

- Prime Dino had half of a season before he was nerfed considerably.

- Mag, Thing, Hood were hit with nerfs this season. I do think it was fair to nerf them, but I think Mag and Hood got hit a lot more than necessary.

- Emma was nerfed pretty good over a few seasons after release before finally getting some meaningful buffs as of late.

- Tankpool was nerfed pretty good not long after his release.

I’m a tank main and I swear the best in slot characters for the other roles get a lot more time before they get addressed and when they do, it never seems to be as much as when tanks do. Why is that?

What separates Celestial from GM and Eternity+ from Celestial?

Basically the title. I’m currently in GM (console) and would like honest opinions.

Sometimes I (admittedly) like to tell myself that in my best matches I could keep up with a higher elo for a bit, but then I remember that if I could consistently, I wouldn’t be in GM!

Back to a more serious note, I’m sure GM1 and low Cel are practically similar while Cel 1 and low Eternity are probably roughly similar as well if I had to guess. So what separates them more broadly? Mechanics? Game sense? Something else?
