Used S100 Crown Not Working

Recently received a S100 used and was very excited however it seems the crown encoder is maybe shot. When I pull it out and spin there's no feedback and the second hand doesn't move at all. I saw some people say I can ship it to Casio in NJ to repair but wanted to know if anyone has advice or not. I got it off eBay so I can probably return it if need be.

Thanks for any advice!

Edit: I messaged the seller to see what they say I did manage to pop the back off and carefully touch the correct contacts in order to get the watch to the correct time zone and then force a radio sink so it has the exact correct time now, at the very least this makes the watch wearable and usable which is all I really want it to be, though I may still send it out to get fully repaired.

Mchose A5V3 Review - AMA!

General Description: The Mchose A5V3 Is the third iteration on the Mchose A5 shape. In the past there was a large demand for a Logitech G Pro superlight mini. Since Logitech is horrifically adverse to actually giving people what they wanted we spent a good five years without actually getting that shape, other companies decided that they were going to make copies of the GPX and some took it upon themselves to actually design the super light mini themselves. The A5 Is a smaller version of their A7, and the A7 is a direct clone of the GPX and one of the best on market making the A5 an interesting case of a company that was beating Logitech to the punch now competing with Logitech directly. They have had multiple upgrades and variations of this mouse over the years and you can even get it in a magnesium style if you want but today I'm going to talk about the new A5V3.

Info: 19x10 Hands, mouse used at mostly 2k polling and 800 dpi (I prefer lower sensitivity (35cm fastest, 50 slowest), I am aware 800 is not enough to get the most out of higher pollings, and do test my mice at higher DPI and polling rates to fully saturate the polling, but I mostly stick to 800 DPI) and all on a SP-004 Glass Mousepad. This mouse was given to me for free only under the stipulation that I make a review for it and will not affect at all my thoughts on the mouse.

Shape: Shape is king and as always it is the most important part of the mouse. What you get is a small feeling mouse with a decent middle hump and lower rear curve to the middle, solid curves in along the sides for your thumb and index fingers to get a good grip on. It has a higher click height than the majority of other mice in this size giving it a more unique feeling in hand that I personally find to be quite nice, despite my usual enjoyment of lower click heights. The extended length that also keeps it longer than a lot of other mice in the usual smaller mice category lending itself really well to people who prefer to pull the mouse into their palm when using a claw grip. For me personally I tend to essentially fingertip grip a mouse unless I am pulling it into my palm creating a relaxed claw grip in order to gain stability when tracking a target in an FPS. The curvature areas for gripping the sides of the mouse along with the extended length of it make it excellent for getting a grip like this on the mouse, and having really good maneuverability for micro adjustments.

The shape here is essentially a direct scale down GPX. The GPX 2c in comparison ended up a little shorter, they gave it a more chunky middle feeling by shortening the length front to back, where the A5 instead just scales everything down to uniformly, giving it a different shape and feel in the hand. Overall it is a surprisingly nice shape. Personally I'm someone who fell away from the GPX wanting something with a little more curvature to the sides to help me get better finger placements and a better overall grip, and the A5 honestly does an excellent job of just that since the longer curves make them feel a bit deeper to me.

For comparison to some other mice the main ones I would have on hand are the Mchose L7, L7+ and ATK F1, Though overall the F1 is the more direct competitor between these mice that I have at least (a more neutral shape). The F1 is based on an early hit scan hyperlite model which is designed to be more of a Viper mini shape, in a comparison with that mouse I expected that the curvature on it would have been more harsh with a more rear oriented hump giving me a better support in comparison as I was at the time maining that mouse before getting this one. I'll honestly say that I'm surprised this wasn't the case. The curvature on the A5 is surprisingly solid and deep, The grip I was able to get on it felt incredibly sturdy and without compromise. Overall the mouse just felt excellent in my hands. When comparing it to the L7 It is a much different feeling mouse. The L7 is designed to be somewhat a clone on the X2 Mini however it takes some liberties with that design that I think elevate it well above it. That being said the L7 is more designed around a claw grip with a larger rear hump, The overall the design also allows it to be gripped fingertip quite well, It is a surprising difference to the feel. Both are very well design shapes but for completely different reasons. If you want a more claw/fingertip first oriented shape then the L7 is the choice, but if you want a more palm/claw oriented shape I think the A5 is the better choice.

Overall shape-wise you're getting a smaller mouse designed to be easily gripped in a multitude of grip styles, that mainly shines in a relaxed claw or palm grip but still works for a fingertip grip just as well.

Specs: Top of the line, flawless.

  • Weight:The weight of the mouse is a bit surprising to me. Mchose keeps a lot of their mice fairly lightweight, The L7 releasing before Pulsar even got a chance to make the crazy light variation of their X2 Mini meant they got beaten to the punch on a design that is fairly similar. As such it's pretty surprising that the A5 especially the V3 model comes in at 56g. I would have expected them to drop it into the mid 40s, but no it actually comes in at a weight higher than the Superlight 2C, over 10% heavier. I'm personally someone who has gotten pretty used to using mice that are in the 40g range or below. So it was even more surprising to me when I didn't notice this using the A5. The weight balance on the mouse is surprisingly excellent, that may have to do with it having a large battery but I just ended up not noticing the weight as much due to how well designed the shape and weight are.
  • Coating: Cool to the touch but becomes grippy after a small amount of time touching it and letting it heat up against your fingers, I haven't noticed anything weird with it so overall it's a fairly standard but good coating, It reminds me of the Viper V3 coating.
  • Switches: Omeron mechanical switches, they aren't too loud and feel incredibly solid with very little pre and post travel, so I do fully admit that I am not the best judge of switches and unless it is glaringly bad I don't usually feel much difference.
  • Sensor: 3395, with 8k polling, much like other mice from this company I find it to feel flawless, I've ran it sometimes at 8K without issue but mainly at 2K and have had no problems with it.
  • Skates: I prefer a faster skate and usually use x-ray pad jades, however like I've had with other mice from Mchose, The stock skates are standard PTFE skates that feel perfectly adequate and great on my pad, I felt absolutely no need to change out the skates.
  • QC: as with everything else from Mchose that I have used, The QC on this mouse is simply excellent and I had genuinely no issues with it whatsoever. I could not find anywhere to squeeze on it to make it creek, and everything about it feels premium.

Software: It is web driver software and it's pretty good software. You get all the features you would want as well as some extra ones like tilt direction and things like that, you don't have to install anything to the mouse you just need to have a chromium based browser (which means you can just use Microsoft Edge, the only thing edge is good for keeping installed), and updates and everything else run through it as well.

Extras: It comes with a solid bungie cable of the same color, as well as some in the box grip tape. I would have liked an extra set of skates, but there is enough room to fairly easily fit dots on there if needed.

Downsides:  The only real downside to this mouse is the weight. For the size of the mouse I would expect it to weigh less than 56g, and would prefer it to be somewhere in the mid-40s despite the fact that the weight balance is so good I barely noticed that it weighs nearly double some of my other mice. This is especially true when the competition currently is the ATK A9 Mini. The ATK A9 is a one to one clone of the GPX. Where Mchose typically adjust some core features in order to make their mice feel more original ATK pretty much just makes exact clones, and they recently cloned the 2c, which comes in at 39g, but is more expensive as a result. However as someone who just vastly prefers lighter mice I would really like to see a version of this mouse that comes in more at 44g personally, even if that means an increase in the price.  Speaking of…

Price: $56. I have been glazing this mouse pretty much this whole time. Everything about it feels premium, and it comes with a solid amount of goodies as well. All in all this is one of the more complete packages you'll get when purchasing a mouse. And it's only $56. If you just want a competitor to the 2c or want to try a similar shape without spending a large amount of money, at this price it's a no-brainer.

Conclusion: If you want a high quality mouse that works for pretty much all grip types and is smaller than a standard GPX, but keeps a lot of the same stylings for its shape then this is the mouse for you. For the price it's at versus what you're getting you are receiving an incredibly solid mouse that has virtually no flaws that I can personally speak of outside of the wait which even that isn't a flaw when the balancing is as good as it is. Overall it's hard for me to not want to recommend anyone who wants to get a premium feeling mouse to get this one because it's one of the best bang for your buck options on market I think, but if you do want to save that weight there is an alternative for more money.
