Stopping cars way behind the sensor

I’m curious - I don’t see this nearly as much in other parts of LA outside of the SGV. Seems like lots of folks stop their cars a full 15-20 feet behind the line at a red light, and as a result the sensor doesn’t know anyone’s there. What gives?

Just got my 1940s Tissot Antimagnetique back from being serviced

What a lovely find! I bought this from eBay and promptly had it serviced. It’s keeping near-perfect time, and I absolutely adore it. My best estimate is that it’s from around 1949; Tissots are apparently hard to place with certainty from that era.

Guest overhearing 3rd party agency horror stories

Hello, all. Slightly atypical story here; I’m not a hotel worker, but I am currently staying at a hotel in a lovely coastal California town.

Tonight I was waiting at the front desk to make a dinner reservation and overheard the FDA diplomatically explaining to a guest on the phone that their 3rd party agency had been less than truthful when promising an ocean view and an easy walk to the ocean. In fact, the hotel is in a peaceful wooded grove well over 2 miles from the ocean.

The poor FDA was so obviously used to this. I could hear her say, “Yes, that’s what they do…no, I’m sorry, there’s nothing we can do about it since you’ve prepaid through a third party…”

I knew from this sub that 3rd party agencies were trouble, but how common is it for them to outright lie? Yikes!
