Novice seeking direction

Hello RC peeps,

My son (6) is really interested in RC cars. We've had the run of the mill cheap stuff from the big box stores, like a few grave diggers, and some weird dancing tech crawlers. But his friend has "real" cars. They're still battery powered like Arrma and Traxxas but repairable, better controls, speed, distance, operation, etc.

I've been trying to read up online, but there's so much info it's hard to know where to start. And for a couple hundred bucks, it feels like I need to have a good understanding before I dive in. So, is there a best place to start?

Is there a clear winner between Traxxas or Arrma or another brand that's modular and rebuildable?

Is there a best place, way, time to catch screaming deals on an RC car?

All insights appreciated!

AP7 range boost ?

Hello! I've got a firewalla box with the AP7 as my Wi-Fi router. It's great, but has a little bit of connectivity issues on the furthest ends of the house.

I was wondering if anyone knew if you can add an antenna or assignment the range at all?

I've considered a second unit, but the house isn't really that big and the connection is fine most of the time.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Antenna placement rec request

Hello 👋🏻

New to the world of mesh and LoRa. Working on getting gear but there's not a lot of stuff in my area of SE Michigan farmland. So I'm looking at making sure I put up a good node/repeater.

Wondering if I can get away with mounting alongside my antique tv antenna (pictured) and if I would need to achieve a specific height above or below it to be effective and prevent screwing my local reception?

I can use my chimney as a mount, it's probably 15 feet away but lower than the roof peak so I would lose height.

Appreciate any thoughts or insights.

Faulty Wiring or Sensitive Fixture

Hello,

I have an old crank timer switch in my bathroom for the fan outlet. It does the ol clicking noise like an antique kitchen timer as it counts down. Then it clicks and turns off when the timer rotates back to start.

I was in the next room over, and noticed as the timer clicked off the LED light/fan fixture blinked. Like the light didn't come on fully, just barely visible. I've never noticed it before, and only saw it because it was dark. I repeated the event to ensure I wasn't imagining it.

Looking through articles, it seems like maybe there's a surge when the bathroom timer and fan click off, but, while they're obviously in the same circuit breaker, they're not directly connected. The fixture that blinks is in another room, functions on another switch, etc.

So, the first question is, do I stop letting the family run the bathroom fan?

Then, do I not worry about it? change the switch? Climb into the attic and check the wiring?

All insight appreciated.
