Where to buy networking tools?

Hello everyone,

I need to run a cat 6 cable from where my router is to a different place through the walls and so need to wire up two r45 Jacks, as someone with no networking experience I dont have any of the required equipment which appears to be something called a punch down tool?

Does anyone know where to buy one in the around the Osborne Park/ CBD NoR area? Extra points if i can get everything else i need for this fun job at the same place!

Thanks in advance.

Edit:

Thanks for pointing out I need to have it done by a licensed person, I thought cos its just a data cable its fine to DiY, happy to pay someone to do it properly, does anyone have any recommendations?!

I hope some of the more well-funded/successful spacesim games would consider making a physical starmap like spacesim games used to do. They look great framed up on walls!

"Headless"? server and remote access

So ive been using fedora cosmic spin for about a week and I like cosmic and I havent had to reinstall the OS so I feel like ive been successful so far.

I am partway through troubleshooting setting up a valheim server which seems to be harder that it should be but is most likely my infamiliarity with the Linux. Once I get it sorted I want to put it on a different machine that I dont have connected to a monitor and run that permanently along with some other stuff like jellyfin etc.

My questions are, is fedora a good distro for this use case or should i consider something else? I was just going to use the same cosmic spin on the other machine to keep familiarity and the gui give me comfort, is there a real disadvantage to using this over server other than a bit of system overhead?

Additionally what is a good remote access solution, i am sure there are 500 different ways to do it so just looking for some pointers in a direction or anything specifically to avoid. And how to do the initial setup.

Thanks!

Cosmic issues?

So I'm not sure if I have encountered a bug, its a noob issue or I have somehow borked my install,

I am running cosmic fedora spin, I haven't really installed any apps except brave browser and tried to setup a valheim server.

Trying to open a file through the terminal i get the following message;

steam@fedora:~/Valheim$ cosmic-edit start_valheim.sh
steam@fedora:~/Valheim$ [2026-08-02T02:52:22Z ERROR cosmic::theme] error loading system dark theme error=GetKey("list_button", Os { code: 2, kind: NotFound, message: "No such file or directory" })
[2026-08-02T02:52:22Z ERROR cosmic::theme] error loading system dark theme error=GetKey("frosted_maximized_apps", Os { code: 2, kind: NotFound, message: "No such file or directory" })
[2026-08-02T02:52:22Z ERROR cosmic::theme] error loading system dark theme error=GetKey("list_button", Os { code: 2, kind: NotFound, message: "No such file or directory" })
[2026-08-02T02:52:22Z ERROR cosmic::theme] error loading system dark theme error=GetKey("frosted_maximized_apps", Os { code: 2, kind: NotFound, message: "No such file or directory" })
Authorization required, but no authorization protocol specified

Additionally in the apps window there are two things called Qt5 and Qt6 settings, I didn't see them when i first installed, if i open them it says they are not configured correctly and when i click on information i get this message;

The QT_QPA_PLATFORMTHEME environment variable is not set correctly (current value: cosmic, required values: qt6ct or qt5ct).

Is this a known issue or something i've done wrong? I thought the cosmic-edit command should just open that file in the cosmic text editor?

Eli5: What happens if i install 2 different ram Dimms in the two slots

If i have two different sticks of ram, (same size different speed and latency, no idea about timings)

What happens, will it run with the total amount of memory? will it cause system instability? Will the ram gods smite me for misusing their holy resource?!

Any good mininmal HUD mods?

Im about to start a new immmershun playthrough.

Im looking for a mod that minimises or reduces the footprint of the HUD to increase the immersion.

Im aware that you can just turn it off but id do use the gravidar and not being able to see what you have targeted / missile locked and ammo makes the game very difficult to actually play 🤣.

Any good suggestions? I cantbe the only person that thinks the vanilla HUD is a bit much.

Are there actually any reviews available for the QD-OLED S90H?

As the title says, I can only find NA resources who all complain about the WOLED panel, in Aus the 77" is apparently a QD-OLED, i want to compare it against the LG G6 but cant find any reviews testing the QDOLED panel

Timelines a good way to get back into the game

800+ hours, last played properly in 2023. Feel like its almost a completely different game since then from loosely following 8.0 and now 9.0. Is timelines a good place to start again.

What do I need to know about the changes?

Private Health Insurance

As a a 482 visa holder part of my visa conditions were that I had to have insurance, however, for some reason it was not tax deductible so I was paying the medicare levy surcharge as well.

When I became a permanent resident last year I just cancelled my insurance as I now have medicare and the insurance I had was not tax deductible.

After this tax year we will no longer have to pay the medicare levy surcharge as my wife has stopped working to look after our newborn.

I was planning not to get health insurance and just use medicare as required and pay out of pocket for dentist and skin check etc etc as we are generally healthy and still youngish (early to late 30s).

However, one of my colleagues said something along the lines of:

"If you dont have an insurance policy, the cost of taking one out goes up every year that you dont hold one when you eventually do get one and you are eventually forced to get a health insurance policy"

Is this really the case, or am i confused? Is it more cost effective to get a junk insurance policy that I have no intention of using to reduce future costs?

What is the best/ most financially efficient option in this scenario, when the only reason to take out an insurance policy is for tax / future cost efficiency?

I have been watching the steam controller with great interest, pretty sure the track pads and ability to bring up the keyboard overlay will make the game at least functionally playable from the couch (always before there has been stuff you just cant do).

Has anybody got any thought?!
