August 2026 Bulk Scramble!

Big thanks to everyone for all of the love on my post last week. After about 12 and a half hours, spread out over the past 7 days or so, my entire collection is once again scrambled, all 280 puzzles! I find scrambling everything to be a great way to ensure that every puzzle in my collection gets some play time, even the more difficult and tedious ones. I had a blast scrambling everything.

Check out my YouTube vid if you want to see a more detailed tour of the puzzles before and after the scramble.

Finally finished solving my bulk scramble from January 2026!

Finally had the chance to rearrange my room, now all three shelves of my collection fit on one wall! Finished solving last week, got everything dusted and reorganized yesterday. First four pics show the collection as of today, the last two are from January 2026. Took about 12 hours to scramble everything, and around 82 hours over the past 7 months to get it all solved again.

Puzzles (and a book) created by Manish Rathod, aka ManQube are finally in my collection!

ManQube is such an awesome puzzle designer, making amazing new shape mods what seems like weekly. A couple of them have been mass produced and I finally added them to my collection. The vid shows some first thoughts and I demonstrate how these shape mods compare to their base mechanism puzzles.

The sin of Minute-Rice. Can I switch to cheaper, long cook rice and still use my favorite add ins?

So, I'm not a beginner at cooking, by any means. Regularly cooking at home for myself and others is a ton of fun. However I have become victim to the curse that is instant, 5 minute rice. The kind where you do equal parts rice/liquid, boil liquid, add rice, let sit for 5 minutes. My favorite way of doing that is with a lot of extras, diced onions, peppers, celery, spices to meet the main course flavor. And rarely do I use just water as the base liquid, usually a bit of soy sauce, hot sauce, broth, maybe a dash of pickle juice or lemon juice for some acidity.

Considering that rice is one of my favorite sides, I cook it almost every time I make a new meal, unless pasta or potatoes are involved. So the instant rice can get pricey when compared to the bulk bags of long cook rice.

So here's the question, how will I have to alter my favorite recipes if I switch to the long cook rice? Will I still be able to add veggies and other liquids besides just water? How will I know if the ratios of liquid to rice are correct? With the instant rice it's pretty easy to tell whether I need more liquid or more rice as soon as I stir in the rice. With twice as much the liquid to rice ratio in the long cook, I feel like it'll be tougher to tell if the ratio is slightly off. Especially given that fresh vegetables release a bit of liquid as they boil and could throw off the ratios. Any other tips appreciated as well.

37 y/o male here, nearly 1 year sober. I used to read a lot in my youth, as my addiction and noticeable symptoms of adult ADHD grew, reading fell out of my life. I needed something to fill the void in my evenings where I used to pick up my first drink, I decided to try a good book.

Using modern technology to my advantage I decided to use a technique recommended by a person in a similar situation. I've been listening to the audiobooks while having the physical book in hand, the two forms of engagement keep me from getting distracted. I finished the first two books in under a week, something I haven't done in over two decades. I'll be starting Mockingjay today.

The reason I picked the Hunger Games series as my first attempt at reading was because I already know the story. So even if I didn't like the read or couldn't finish the book, I wouldn't be left with a cliff hanger of a story I'd never heard of. Holy crap, I never would have imagined that these books would be better than the movies, but my oh my are they. I think thus far I loved Catching Fire the most. The amount of extra details has been so interesting. I love being able to see Katniss' thoughts along the way, the story being written in first person is so wonderful. I'm still guilty of picturing scenes from the movies when the details are pretty much the same, however the illustrated versions of the books has also helped to modify the way I see certain people and places.

I've never seen the Ballad of Songbirds movie, so I'm super excited to get to that book. It will be a completely new experience and I can't wait to get to it after I finish the original series. Names have always been an issue for me, so I've had to stop a few times and Google a name just to make sure I know who's being talked about, but that's not really an issue. I imagine I'll have to do the same with BoS, but I also plan to take notes along the way for quick reference back to characters names and relationships.

So yea, not really looking for advice or anything here, just figured I'd share my story on how this series has helped me begin to enjoy reading again. Maybe throw another book or series that you enjoyed down in the comments that I can consider reading next.
