I made my first medication error error today, and I feel awful

Hi everyone. I’m a nursing student on my second clinical rotation, and today I made my first medication error.
I was assisting a nurse with medication administration. I scanned the patient’s wristband and medication and popped the tablet into a medication cup as instructed. The nurse picked it up and administered it, but right as the patient was swallowing, she realized the dose was incorrect. It required the pill—carbidopa/levodopa- to be split. Instead of 0.5mg, 1mg was administered. Unfortunately, it was too late. We reported the error, and the patient appeared to be doing fine when I checked on him later.

Honestly, I wasn’t independently verifying the dosage because I’d gotten into the habit of following the nurse’s direct specific instructions throughout the morning. I recognize that I should have checked the order and verified the dose myself rather than relying entirely on her process. The nurse was very reassuring and said it was ok, but I felt terrible and responsible for the error. When showing me the correct dose later, an alert popped up after scanning that prompted you to cut the pill. I don’t know how I missed it- if I originally overlooked it. or if I didn’t click into the right page in order to see the alert after scanning. I’m brand new so I don’t have alert fatigue.

My instructor was nearby and asked what happened. When he asked if I administered the medication, I said no because I wasn’t the one who physically gave it to the patient. He asked me again later, and now I’m worried he thought I was being dishonest or avoiding responsibility. I wasn’t trying to lie, but I was embarrassed and didn’t fully explain my role. I also didn’t want to embarrass the nurse. She said it was her first time making a med error, and she’d been working in healthcare for 20 years.

Later, the charge nurse also brought up the error, so now I feel extra embarrassed and I’m wondering who else knows about it, and whether my school will take action. I just wanted to hide and shrink into a little dust mite.

I’ve been unknowingly exhausted this rotation, getting only about 3 hours of sleep per night the last few weeks due to stress, time zone change, homework etc., and this happened on my last day of my 4 day 12 hour shift rotation. I don’t have any healthcare background so this is all new to me. I’m extremely sad and disappointed in myself and realize I need to strengthen my pharmacology knowledge and be more intentional about verifying medications, even when working under supervision. The experience did make me much more attentive during subsequent medication passes.

For nurses and students who’ve experienced this, how are medication errors typically handled in clinicals? Should I expect consequences, and what should I do next? More importantly, I welcome any feedback regarding this. Please be honest. I’m not looking for reassurance that I did nothing wrong. I want to learn from this and figure out how to move forward.

Cannot find a hidden AirTag

Recently heard an AirTag pinging like an owner was trying to find their lost AirTag-in my living room! I looked everywhere but can’t find it. On my FindMy App, under Items>Identify Found Item, ‘AirTag’ pops up but doesn’t give me the option to connect to it. Just tells me to hold my phone close to it so I can connect and learn more about it, but I cannot find it. Is there any way I can make it ping, or any scanner I can use to locate it?

How to autosum Likert scale responses from Microsoft Forms

Hello, I am trying to figure out how I can have the responses from a Likert scale question in Microsoft Forms be autosummed and give me total score. I want the total score to then be assigned a value on the following question. For example if the sum of my responses in question 6 totaled a range between 7-14, I would be auto assigned 'Emerging'; If total was between 15-21 I would be assigned 'Proficient' and so on. I want to do this through power automate or the auto grading technique, however I am very unfamiliar with this. Any way to do this? A detailed step by step would be appreciated or even a phone call. I am brand new to power automate and struggling

Electrician recommendations for 240v EV outlet installation

Looking for electrician recommendations to install a 240V outlet directly next to my exterior electrical panel in Antelope, CA.

I already have a plug-in Level 2 charger, so I’m not looking for a hardwired EV charger, just the outlet installation. Since it’s right next to the panel I’m hoping to keep the cost around $300 or less, if that’s realistic. There is plenty of space on the panel.

I’m not really looking to go through the SMUD program, as the out of pocket costs after the rebate have been higher than the other quotes I’ve received.

If you’ve had a good experience with a local electrician (or recently had a similar installation done), I’d really appreciate any recommendations. Thanks!

Should I drop out of nursing school to pursue dental school passion as a single mom?

TLDR- seeking advice to drop out of nursing school to pursue dental school passion as a single mom.

Hi all, I’m a 25 year old single mom to a one year old. I’ve always loved dentistry, but I made the decision to put that on hold for now and prioritize motherhood and stability. I’m currently in nursing school and have about 20 months left in my program. I leave for my first nursing clinical rotation tomorrow, and I’m honestly really doubting if I made the right choice.

I live in California and have family support nearby, which helps a lot. However, the cost of dental school here is extremely high. I do have one school within driving distance(CNU), but it would cost a minimum of about $500,000, not including interest, which feels a bit irresponsible. I am very interested in the military scholarship however I understand there’s no guarantee I get that.

I keep going back and forth wondering if it would make more sense to just pursue dental school now while I have family support, or continue with nursing, get that stability, and maybe pursue dentistry later when my child is a bit older and less dependent. I am considering going to a more affordable out-of-state dental school later on, but then I’d be juggling school, childcare, pick-ups/drop-offs, and no family support nearby.

I want what’s best for my family, and I know nursing would give me financial stability, but it’s hard to let go of something I’ve always been passionate about. Any advice or perspective would really help.

Range depleting super fast

I have a 2021 Audi e tron Quattro S sport back. I purchased a few weeks ago with 93,000 miles on it. Today I drove a total of 5 miles and my range went down from 187 to 157 miles. I think this is unacceptable…I’m going to be getting this software checked, but any ideas as to why the range is so low?

Exit warning malfunction in 2021 Audi E-tron Q4 S Sportback

Any ideas as to what the issue is? 2021 Audi e-tron S Sportback. 93k miles, just purchased 3 weeks ago. Dealership told me it could be dirty sensors, but I cleaned them off with a cloth and the warning did not go away.
