Birmingham, AL. They look like lilyturf but much much smaller than any lilyturf I've ever seen. Some clusters have Pale purple flowers, and others have white. They have slender grassy basal leaves that are dark green. Thrives in the shade, among fallen oak leaves.
This has gotta be the fastest plush I've ever crocheted, especially of the ones I've done hand-embroidered faces for. Start to finish, it took exactly one week.
I made this for a friend's baby shower. They have an absolutely precious black cat, so I wanted to make their baby a toy inspired by him! I added a little jingly rattle inside too (sewn securely into a fabric pouch placed inside the body) because I've read that babies like toys that make sounds.
I made it as baby safe as possible with the materials I had onhand (no "safety" eyes, very tight embroidery, all strings quadruple knotted with tails cut short, etc). It's machine washable on the cold, delicate settings as well.
I really hope they like it!
Original Pattern: "Mochi the Cat" by Famcraftsshop
(with some minor tweaks to the crochet pieces, and freehand embroidery for the face).
Yarn: two strands of Caron Simply Soft held with one strand of a galaxy-looking mohair-ish yarn someone had gifted me (no clue of brand)
First time ever buying these, (first time I've ever actually seen them in a store, and for a good price too (the series 2 boxes were $5, and the series 1 boxes were on clearance for $1.50), and not only did I get Firestar, but I got my favorite couple in the whole book series, Cloudtail and Brightheart!! They're so friggin cuuuteee I can't!!! They have a place of honor on my bookshelf lol.
Found this feather in a swimming pool today. It's the tiniest flight feather I've ever seen!! (Hard to see in this photo, but it's asymmetrical like a left wing flight feather). The photo shows it resting on my pinky finger for scale. As it dried, it started showing a slight hint of green iridescence. We have a lot of ruby throated hummingbirds around here, (AL, USA), and I genuinely can't think of another bird in the area who would have such tiny flight feathers, so my best guess is that this is one of the shorter flight feathers from a Ruby Throated Hummingbird :)
Big circled plant behind the marigolds has started growing quickly in the garden bed. Full sun, lots of rain lately. It has giant spikey leaves and a thick stalk. I genuinely have no clue what it might be.
creeping vine growing along the fence-line. Gets a good deal of sun, but also partial shade. Has clusters of slightly serrated leaves, some clusters of 3, but mostly clusters of 5, and red stems where the newest growth is. My best guess is virginia creeper?
Markdown formatting is not working for me on the ios app, whether I try to format text with markdown characters, only when I use the new formatting bar. Sometimes, When I post comments, It will show the preview formatted correctly while typing, but then just show the markdown characters around the text without changing the formatting when posting
Example: *italics typed manually* , italics typed with format bar
Found this absolute GEM from Avocado Animations today XD
Looking for something that means roughly the same thing as "running on fumes" or "running on empty" - a short phrase someone would use to quickly get the point across that they're thoroughly physically or mentally exhausted to the point that they feel like they've had the life drained out of them.
I'm looking for something that would make sense somewhere in the age of exploration.
This is for a fan fiction of The Princess Bride, so, like in the original, the time period will be left intentionally vague and some anachronism is ok (so long as I can come up with some silly bit of in-universe lore to explain why it's "actually not anachronistic at all and totally something they would have said back then" lol).
