Don’t see these too often! Model 1864 Joslyn cavalry carbine

Recently picked up this 1864 model Joslyn cavalry carbine. They didn’t make too many of these, only around 12,000, mine being around the 1500th. It was delivered to the US cavalry in July of 1864. Regiments from NY, Indiana, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Ohio, and Tennessee were issued these guns. They fired the rimfire Spencer cartridge. They were heavily used in the Third Battle of Winchester, where they garnered mixed reviews from users. Overall a neat piece of civil war history that I’m glad I can share.

Don’t see these too often! Model 1864 Joslyn carbine

Just purchased this model 1864 Joslyn carbine, made in early 1864 and delivered to the Union cavalry in July. These were used heavily in the third battle of Winchester where they received mixed reviews. They fire the same rimfire cartridge as the Spencer. All in all only around 12000 of the 1864 model were made, this one being around the 1500th made.

Treating bronze disease on billon?

Hello everyone! I have a billon Indo Greek tetradrachm that showed up in the mail with tufts of flaky green powder, typical of bronze disease. How would I go about treating a billon coin with BD? I scraped everything off with a toothpick and have it currently soaking in distilled water, changing water daily. What else can I do to fix this problem? The BD is not causing pitting on the coin whatsoever, I’m just worried it will if left untreated. If you need pics I can get some. Thanks!

Such a diverse state. Mountains have beautiful native trout, the Piedmont has every flavor of sunfish, and the ocean has a surprising amount of colorful tropical reef fish, like the graysby grouper, mackerel, and seabass

What in your opinion is the best tasting fish?

For me, it’s very close between walleye, vermillion snapper, and triggerfish. Trout, smallmouth bass, pike, and catfish are all interchangeable for second.

1861-O half dollar: the only coin minted in any number by the confederacy!

When Louisiana seceded from the Union in early 1861, they continued producing coins throughout the year, only stopping when they ran out of silver. These are pretty common but tell a neat story. I paid $85 for this one.

To honor the 163rd anniversary of Gettysburg, here is my civil war collection

  1. Burnside 5th model cavalry carbine, based on serial number served with D company of 2nd Illinois cavalry, 1864-65
  2. Model 1861 rifle musket, savage contract, made in 1863
  3. Austrian Lorenz 1st pattern, bored out to .577 caliber. This one was found in a barn in Tallahassee, FL.
  4. Prussian model 1839/55, .69 caliber. Imported by the union in 1861 or 62
  5. LG&Y model 1863 rifle musket, made in 1864.
  6. German made model 1840 cavalry saber, union used, grip rewrapped.
  7. Unmarked foreign import model 1840 cavalry saber. Unmarked swords were theorized to have been made on contract for the confederacy, and the maker’s mark was omitted to avoid trouble with the US
