Update: Edinburgh City Council Tax Texts are not scams
Hi all,
On Thursday after working hours I received a very dodgy looking text to pay my council tax, trusting the numbers were right I paid via the phone any ways. I posted about it at the time here.
On Friday morning I phoned the Council Tax Department and provided them with the phone number I paid via and they told me it was a scam and to get in touch with my bank. I got in touch with the bank who told me that things seemed to check out and it was unlikely to be a scam.
This morning I checked my council tax online account and turns out the payment did go through. It puzzles me how multiple people who work at the city council in the council tax department don't know how these payment texts work. Seems like some retraining should happen at the city council....
Confusing deposit situation, looking for some advice (Scotland)
I moved into a property in Scotland in June 2025, the deposit was protected within 7 days of moving there but there were a number of issues including a rat infestation which led to the agency finding me a new flat to move into. As of July 2025, I had moved into this new property, with the agency ensuring the deposit would be moved across to the new tenancy.
This did not happen, and despite my emails to the property manager the deposit was not changed to the new address until October 2025. Since moving out as of last week, I have had an automated email from SafeDeposits Scotland advising me the deposit was not correctly protected
As the situation is a little confusing, I cannot see much advice online about it. I have reached out to Shelter but due to the complexity of the situation they weren't able to offer much help. I have also sent a message to Citizens Advice but they are yet to get back to me.
I was wondering:
- How can I get help with the Tribunal form? I have taken a look at it and I half understand it all but it is a little overwhelming.
- Is it even worth putting a claim in? Given the circumstances of the deposit being protected but under the wrong address, and not wholly unprotected for the duration of the tenancy, I do not imagine the compensation will be particularly large.

What liability do bike rental companies have (e.g. Lime bikes) in England?
I just came across this awful story here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c33y1ynvjzjo
I noticed that Lime have not paid out any compensation to the woman who was injured, and was wondering if anyone who has knowledge of personal injury cases could explain why Lime does not pay out in cases such as these.
Appreciate it's not advice specifically for myself so sorry to the mods in advance if this breaks any rules, I'm just quite intrigued
Does Siri just not work on the Series 8 anymore or is it just me?
I bought this watch 3 years ago, worked fine for the first 2 years and a half but recently basic things with Siri like "Set a 20 min timer" just does not work. Sometimes it'll just show the Siri graphic and do nothing and other times it will say "Sorry, can you say that again?".
I am so disappointed with how long this watch has lasted. iPhones seem to last atleast 4-5 years, Macbooks and iPads even longer, why the hell is this watch starting to become a paper weight within 3 years of owning the thing.
Anyone else having similar issues?
Has moderation on r/edinburgh changed again?
Has anyone had similar experiences on that subreddit as of recent? If so, it would be nice to see r/edinburgh2 more active again! Or I might just bin off Reddit entirely I'm sick of powertripping people like this.
No Win No Fee Solicitors for unprotected deposit claims
Hi, I'm going to be moving out of my flat soon and my agency did not move over the deposit from an old flat to the new one until 3 months later. Having spoken to SafeDeposit Scotland on the phone they advised me to seek legal advice. As a student, I don't have the funds to pay up front for a solcitor. I have also had a bad experience with a larger national solicitors before so I'd prefer to use a more local firm, if anyone had any reccomendations that would be great!
