Why veterinary medicine?

Hey everyone,

This is my first post in this subreddit. I am a senior undergrad student looking to apply to vet school eventually. I have a general idea of "why vet med" but I definitely need to work a bit more in the field to really have a solid answer.

Many others have advised me that admissions would be asking me this same question, so I would really want to hear from professional in the field too.

I know about the high burnout and suicide rates, what made you choose this field to begin with? What made you stay?

Thanks again!

New owner here! + name suggestions?

Hi,

I just got my first gargoyle gecko and would love some advice from the community. She is a rehomed 3 year old female gargoyle. This is my first ever reptile and I recently put together an ikea rudsta cabinet in preparation for her (ive since added 2 hides on the lower levels for her and a computer fan ontop of the light to keep it cool).

I understand they like more horizontal branches so I am considering adding some more for her. But the main questions I have is, the previous owner said he rarely handled her, and she is a bit skittish. Is it possible to eventually be able to handle her without stressing her out like crazy. I had to move her from her old enclosure into the new one and she seemed very flighty the whole time. I have tried picking her up once to move her into the hide and she jumped almost immediately out from my hand back onto a ledge. Just wondering is there a possibility of me eventually being able to handle her (and she just more tolerable of it)? maybe providing treats or making it a more positive experience?

Any advice in general for new owners is appreciated!!

oh and also how many bugs should I feed her in addition to repashy grubs and fruit CG diet?

THANKS! Here is a photo of her when shes fired up, but she also becomes a beautiful light gray when fired down and has amazing red stripes :)

Should i chop my m. bulbasaur?

TLDR: should i chop back or leave to hope to restore more variegation?

Hi, this is my first ever reddit post.. but i genuinely could not find good info about this. I had this m. bulbasaur that i grew from TC. it put out nice variegation until these last 2 leaves which had light speckles of variegation (super small dots on this most recent leaf). from what i understand this species is prone to reverting, and the vietcosa (similar color pattern, but genetically different?) is more stable form. wondering if this just needs different lighting conditions or what not to produce more variegation or i should consider chopping it back to the first 2 leaf’s to see if they reshoot with variegation. The petioles of the last 2 leaves still look they have variegation so im a bit on the fence about chopping it. Anyways, any help is appreciated!
