Hello everyone, I found a young (i think) Mediterranean gecko in Italy (likely Tarentola mauritanica). Its rear left foot/distal leg was crushed in a door and is almost certainly non-functional now. The rest of the body was not crushed.

When I found it, it was stuck in direct sun and severely dehydrated. I carefully freed it, rinsed it gently, and placed it in a ventilated container with water, shade, paper towel substrate, and a hide.

Current condition after ~12 hours:

  • alert
  • holds head up normally
  • eyes open
  • tail intact
  • dragging injured leg completely

Main issue: I may have to leave for the weekend and I’m unsure whether keeping it temporarily in a ventilated outdoor/indoor shaded enclosure is better than releasing it in my garden.

Skunk Gecko gender reveal

Hello yall! Recently my wife and I purchased this little guy, Tex, from a local expo. We were told buy the breeder that he had been a breeding male for them for several years and that he was a 5 year old skunk gecko. Well, I’m inclined to believe them until tonight when we were able to get a good look at “his” underbelly and it looks reminiscent of some of my female geckos when they were about to lay eggs. Now I can usually ID a gecko pretty well but I’m just unsure enough to ask for help from the masses. From this pic, is our lil Tex a boy or a girl?

Need help identifying a stowaway

A friend of mine works in a warehouse (based in England) and a gecko has found its way onto one of the pallets, I've got spare heating/lighting/humidity elements that I can use until I find the appropriate place to hand the gecko over to - but will need to keep it alive for a couple days whilst I do, and am not familiar with this species' care.

Identification help would be greatly appreciated.

Vitamin D3 overdose… spontaneous recovery? What would you do?

Please no judgement. As you can imagine this is already very overwhelming right now, and I feel awful.

My boy Gumbo had a feeding Saturday, was normal until yesterday. He appeared to be on deaths door yesterday and today. All the classic D3 overdose signs. Weak. Lethargic. Twitches. Not coming out. Staying in the cool / wet hide. Difficulty holding himself up. Today, the ENTIRE day he came out -once- , wobbled over to his water looking confused, barely got one blep and wobbled back. I called 6 vets and the soonest I could get was tomorrow morning, an hour away, for $450.

I was reading up that a soak would be best because he’s definitely having trouble hydrating himself. WELL… Suddenly, you would never be able to tell he had any issues. Climbed right up onto me. Stood himself up fine. Strength and coordination 100% normal. Walking fine, no wobble. Breathing fine!!

Obviously I still intend to see the vet, but I’m wondering if anyone’s experienced something similar??? Also, there’s a vet who can do a home visit Thursday morning for $275. I save money, less stress taking him in the car that far, etc…

I love my boy. If I have to spend $100000 to keep him safe and comfortable, I will. If it’s actually possible that he’s already recovering and it can wait until Thursday, that would be ideal. Then I’d also have more $$$ toward the actual treatment. All factors considered, what does Reddit think? ETA: I’m essentially asking if it’s possible that he’s recovering on his own, or if this is not going to be resolved without a vet and if even though he seems fine, if postponing it will make it worse.

Tsatsaka shedding their skin Hoodie for the 4th time

In their fourth shed since I got them. Growing like a champ!

I tried to get a video of them pulling off their shed, but they stopped when I pulled out the camera looking to me like, "Excuse you, can I get some privacy."(pic2)

And their still eating even though their shedding.

Also, im using they/them cause I'm not too sure on this ones gender right now. I'll do a gender reveal post after I get some other opinions. 🤣

Obsessed!

Got this beautiful girl yesterday! I have wanted a Leachie for SO long and the dream has finally come true! She actually came with a name from the breeder... Ozzy!! She hatched literally at the same moment news hit that Ozzy Osborne had passed so he called her Ozzy and we are sticking with it!

Chinese Cave Gecko underweight

Hello! As the title says, ive had my CCG for about a month now. The pet store said they had him for roughly 6 months but no idea on his age. I always knew he seemed a little tiny but after weighing him today he weighed in at 6 grams.

I have tried tong feeding, leaving some mealworms and crickets in a shallow bowl, and even resorted to releasing a few tiny crickets into his enclosure hoping he would eat them. However he doesnt take to tong feeding and all the food has remained in his bowl. I havent seen any loose crickets around the enclosure but he just seems really tiny, anyone have any tips or advice?

not thriving

I made a post about a gecko I rescued. if you hadn’t seen it, take a look at it! anyways, she’s doing better. I upgraded her tank but she seems weird. she’s not moving as much. I can’t see any lick marks in her bowl but she’s not losing weight.

I thought she was maybe constipated since I haven’t seen any poop in her tank. Her belly isn’t hard or anything so I’m not really sure. I haven’t seen any lick marks in her bowl though and I’m afraid she’s just not thriving

I’m taking her to the vet on the 20th! but what else can I do for her in the 3 days we’re waiting? I’m so so afraid shes gonna pass:( I would be so devastated. any help is so so appreciated

first photo is before and the second is after!

Can someone please help and tell me what just happened?

Hi guys, this is Mavis my 10 month old leopard gecko.
Me and my partner are planning on her to the vets tomorrow and she's ovulating and it's been 4 weeks and a bit since she started ovulating and she's showing no signs of laying her eggs.
I was setting up my phone inside her enclosure to try and get a recording of her breathing to check if she was breathing normally and she randomly like twitched/stretched and made this weird noise.
If anyone could lmk what this is that would be helpful:)

Gravid?

This is my female LW Cora, she has been paired with a cappuccino. Lately she has been eating her food bowels clean, digging under her paper towel, being more active, and gained a few grams. She appears more rounded below her rib cage, and today when she was sitting still, I saw what looks like two bulges below her ribs. She doesn’t lay duds, so I do not want to get my hopes up, but also want to anticipate her needs. Does she look gravid?

(She’s 2.5-3yo, and 52g, she has a dig box in her viv)

Internet friends I need your help!

Hi! I am located in Arizona, we found this little guy in our garage hiding underneath our tortises indoor enclosure! He looks like he got beat up by another animal not sure what. He has his skin on his head ripped, as well as his back, and his tail seems to be holding on but also pretty beat up. We want to give him a shot and try and help him and rehab him back. I’m in tears over this little dude, we know nothing about geckos? If that’s what he is. We don’t know where to start, so any advice, help, what to feed, how we should do this or if euthanasia would be the more humane thing to do. Please help!!

for people still living with their parents - how did you convince them to let you get a crested gecko?

Since a child i’ve always been obsessed with reptiles. I would always ask my mum to let me get one and she’d always say no. I’m 19 now and have two blue death feigning beetles. I asked my mum if she’d be comfortable with me getting a crested gecko, it was a “maybe” at first and quickly turned into a “no”. Any tips on convincing her 😅 I’ve tried to sweeten her up with some gifts but she doesn’t see to be budging (wel maybe a little but not much!)

Exploring the new tank for the first time

My husband got a crested gecko a bit more than a month ago, we got her tank all done and starting to do a slow introduction to move her. This is her getting to touch moss for the first time.

She seemed ok, didn't move for the whole hour but was moving her head around and tasting the air. So it's a start,
