Update! Second candle

Update! Second candle

Second attempt went great!! I don’t like the color the dye came out to and we have decided to just go “dye free” since that fits her branding better anyway. But, the burn was great! No tunneling or crazy wick stuff and the hot throw was great for a cute time of only 24h. Didn’t fill the room but was a good 4-5ft throw.
I didn’t do a whole lot different except we kept the wax on the heat while stirring and we used a jar with a smaller diameter.

First candle!

This is our first candle! Unfortunately it had very poor hot throw (GREAT cold throw tho), and a little bit of tunneling. Also needed more dye. But yay!
What is the weird speckling though?

Plain scents?

My daughter is getting into candle making and starting a business to raise money for her favorite animal, which is a vulnerable species.

She’s starting with a rainforest scent. We used essential oils to mix up a scent we like, but I’m having trouble finding fragrance oils that are a single scent, like eucalyptus or lavender, and not a mix by the seller.

Where do we find these fragrance oils? It seems like just buying straight essential oils might be a lot more expensive and not give a good scent throw?

I found all the ones we want on The Flaming Candle… but that’s the only site I seem to be able to find this type of scent and I read they are awful and rip people off.

WTH? Basically brand new email

So my kid just got his first email account a like a month ago. It’s literally only set up with Google, YouTube, and Microsoft/minecraft. How the hell is his password already in a data breach???!!

Hi, It’s me again. Fin shape/size?

Alright, so here’s my fishy so far, (minus some spoilers). I’m totally happy with the pectoral and tail fins. I’ve gone ahead and boned those, which I think looks PERFECT.

I’m struggling a bit with the shape and size of the anal and ventral fins. Idk am I being ridiculous? Any tips? What do you guys think? Please feel free to suggest shapes sizes and placement.

The black markers by the fins are spacers showing where the fins should connect to the body from an anatomical standpoint. The line on top is just the backbone marker for the dorsal fin later.

It’s really hard not working from a specific reference. It’s a fish, supposed to be very like flowy, think longfin butterfly koi/beta. Cartoonish cutesy vibes without outlines type style.

Is this realistic for fins? Like does it look “natural”?

Kind of loosely based off butterfly koi dorsal fin… but fictional fish creature so there isn’t any real reference. It’s not a realistic style obviously but like should look believable if that makes sense? Does this look like “hey yeah, that’s a really flowy fin on a fish”? I feel like maybe it doesn’t, but I can’t put my finger on what the problem is… using procreate pocket

Hilarious sub in reborn as a vending machine

Whether it’s a typo or the translator was being funny, this is hilarious. I did a double take. (It’s peaches) come to think of it, definitely not a typo 😂😂

Help! Transparent layers?

I’ve been trying to draw this like transparent twisting whisker part of this fish drawing… but I’m struggling with the layering of the transparency. I got it on the right one I think… but the left, I just can’t figure out what to do. I tried using a sheer scarf to model the layering and I still feel like it looks off. Can anyone advise where the layering should go to look best and why? Trying to teach myself. (Btw I hope this is okay. It seems to follow all the rules but the “posting requirements” link doesn’t work)

Honestly. I’m just fucking tired. I’ve been sick or flared almost every day this year and I just don’t want to have to cook dinner for the kids and I after work but can’t pay to order out or go out.

▲ 3 r/ants

So… I found the ant colony. They have one singular entrance and exit in the middle of the plastic ceiling above my bed… my first thought was boric acid… but then I realized that there might be a better way. Years ago kids and I caught some carpenter ants after their nuptial flights because we wanted to try to raise a colony. We could only find a few and ultimately they all died. One of them did last a year, but she didn’t have a successful colony. Long story short I do have some Ant colony Housing. So I kind of thought what if I moved them? What if I stuck a little tube in their entrance hole and I attached some colony housing devices with sugar, water, and regular water and stuff like that? Is it possible I might be able to get them to move in? What are some ways you’ve encouraged your pet colonies in the past to move to a new enclosure? If I can get the queen to move into my enclosure, then I can keep or relocate them safely.
