Is a 2012 Ford Focus with 240K miles worth it?

My niece's friend is selling a 2012 Ford Focus with 240K miles for $1,100, and says it has no issues. The friend comes from a family with extra cars, and said they just don't want/need it any more. My brother is going to drive it and look under the hood. He is semi ok with cars (can do an oil change, brakes, tires, etc) but isn't exactly a mechanic.

What do you think?

For more context, my niece is still in high school and working a $12 an hour job, averaging 20-28 hours a week. I mention that because if the engine goes out, she would be on her own paying for it. Parents help isn't an option.

More context, she lives with me. I work days, she works nights. So right now she uses my car to get to work and is free to use it for errands since I am mostly a hermit after work. She doesn't technically "need" a car right now.

Well, no one is safe

Nara Smiths toddler has cancer. The woman who makes homemade lozenges when her family is sick. Probably the "cleanest" eater and caregiver....and her child has cancer.

Wow.

I guess my hot take is that it really doesn't matter much what you do. I knew a guy that ate clean and exercised 4 times a week, died at 35. Also knew a 20 year old who drank 3 energy drinks a day die of heart failure suddenly. Then my great grandma who drank and smoked lived until 80. I have seen some of the oldest sun burnt farmers live until 95, no skin cancer in sight.

Of course I always try and follow a clean diet and such, regardless, but that just astounds me. Child cancer astounds me.

I am still getting used to Reddit and all of the rules so if this isn't the place for this then let me know what IS the place.
