I’m a nurse looking for a change, looking into UPMC. I’ve been a nurse 5 years and work in LTC. I’ve been applying to different hospitals and units that sound interesting but I really have no idea where to start 😭! Really I am looking for good learning units where there aren’t a bunch of mean girls but I guess that is everywhere. Also wondering about the pay as it is very unclear on the job listings. What do they normally start RNs at? Also, the reason I never went to the hospitals after nursing school was because of the required night shift obligations and the parking situations so would appreciate any info on that as well lol. Really any of the hospitals are within the same distance from my house so I’ve been looking at Presby, mercy, Passavant… Any advice is greatly appreciated!
Hi! I have an interview next week at Mercy. I’ve been an RN for a few years with my only experience in rehab/ LTC. I never went to a hospital after nursing school. Looking for a change now and looking for opinions on working at UPMC hospitals. How is the interview process? Is it appropriate to wear scrubs to the interview? Thanks for any advice!
Hi! Looking for advice on jobs for RNs in Pittsburgh. I’ve been a nurse for around 6-7 years, recently got my BSN. My only experience is in ALF/SNF, I was already working in assisted living when I graduated nursing school and decided to stay in working with the elderly because I enjoyed it. I eventually moved on to a SNF and have moved up the ladder, but I think I’m ready to move on. I’ve never really been interested in hospital jobs because of the night shift requirements for new nurses. I have an awesome schedule of M-F daylight right now but also have to take call weekends monthly. I’m getting older and I feel like I want to learn more and have more experience in my career. I realize how SNF nurses are looked down on by other nurses loll.
The problem is I have no clue what would even interest me, I’m thinking hospital but no idea what kind of unit. I’m also nervous that people will think I’m stupid or not up to par with my nursing skills. Looking for suggestions on places that are welcoming to nurses and won’t throw me to the wolves. Also, looking for somewhere with decent insurance and wage. I’m currently making 41/hour and can’t really afford anything less than that. I also pick up a lot of overtime, how does that go with the hospitals? Any advice is greatly appreciated!
Hi! I’m childless and ignorant to this matter so I’ve come to Reddit for advice 😂. My work is having a small baby shower get together for a few new moms at our job. I’m looking for a nice small gift to get each of them but unsure where to even start. I don’t want to just be basic and get diapers- but I’m sure this probably wouldn’t hurt. For context, we work in healthcare, one is a nurse, one a cna and one is a PA. So I’d like to try to find something cute around the healthcare theme! Appreciate any recommendations!
Plant based diet. Don’t know where to start, going to hit up Costco later for meal prep please share some of your favorite easy go tos!!!
I recently accidentally guessed my nephews girlfriend was pregnant, I believe they have been trying for a while. Of note, we are literally the same age (mid 30s), so when I say “nephew” it’s not years younger. She is early and She said she had an ultrasound appointment in a week (this was last week) and I want to text her something along the lines of:
“Been thinking about you and hope everything went good with your ultrasound!!”
But I don’t want to overstep since she has not really been sharing the news and I don’t think I was originally supposed to know. I haven’t even told my own spouse who is the blood relative.
This probably all sounds so stupid but I am already so socially awkward and I want her to know I’m thinking about her but like I said I don’t want to be pushy.
