“Another Way into Orgoreyn” is one of the best chapters of any book I’ve ever read. Spoilers ahead.
Within the first few pages we get one of the best lines I’ve read in a while, “The king is pregnant.”
It blows my mind how relevant this book feels, and I’m not one to say that, in fact I think it’s said too often. But between this and Dispossed I’m convinced she had a Time Machine or something. Her description of a how a political leader can consolidate power was unbelievably familiar and harrowing.
Then of course we get the dream. What a transition. I read and reread those few pages like 4 times to try to pinpoint exactly where we snap back into reality, and the little uncertainties she plants to ease the change. Absolutely brilliant.
Then the description of the new city, the swarthy politicians, and the reappearance of Estraven — “As I spoke I chanced to look to my right, and saying “ghost” saw one… the specter at the feast.” Damn!
Just a masterclass from Le Guin. I can’t believe I put off reading this for so long.
What’s the most bonkers single turn in combat you can think of? Here are my 3 picks.
1. Operation Slippery Puppet (Starstruck Odyssey)
Some absolutely brilliant planning from Emily and Siobhan to pull off the one of the biggest upsets the Intrepid Heroes have ever had in combat. You just got Oceans Elevended, idiot.
2. The Clown Turn (City Council of Darkness)
Call it recency bias, but Beardsley’s “I dig a hole in the dirt” turn in the finale might be the funniest thing to ever happen on D20.
3. Cody Falls on his Sword (Unsleeping City)
Murph’s Nat 1 on his first time swinging Thirsting Blade Dark Excalibur Mega Genesis leads to my favorite Rube Goldberg / Murphy’s Law type riffs ever.

I have two friendly, playful 1 year-olds that I’ll be bringing with me to visit my parents and the cat I grew up with for a few days.
The two are great with new people but haven’t met any other animals before. My parent’s cat is friendly, lazy, cuddly, but very skittish around other animals.
I’m planning to put the two in a big room with all their supplies, but of course it’s my dream to let them roam the house and meet their cousin.
I know the usual introduction tactics, but any tips or similar situations that led to a successful meeting? Does having a bonded pair make it easier for all parties involved?
Does this exist anywhere? Looking to start making sprites (justice for my boy Dusknoir) and want to fill in the gaps where there aren’t customs yet.
Also taking suggestions/requests if ya got anything!
Essentially, who are your favorite custom starters or low-level fusions that you can stick with until the endgame?
Preferably, fusion of two 3-stage mons that have great sprites and great usage all the way through!
I’ll start: Togepi/Machop has great sprite art all the way through and ends up as a very formidable mixed attacker, and Serene Grace with any of the element punches go brrrrr.
