Cloud SRE/Platform Engineers what’s the job really like?

For those working in Cloud SRE or Platform Engineering, what does a normal day look like for you?
What skills do you wish you had focused more on before getting into the role, beyond the usual soft skills, networking and Linux?

Cloud/Platform Engineers what’s the job really like?

For those working in Cloud, SRE or Platform Engineering, what does a normal day look like for you?
What skills do you wish you had focused on before getting into the role, beyond the usual soft skills, networking and Linux? I’ve built projects around microservices, multi tenant , DevOps workflows, IaC with good security pratices, but I don’t have direct job experience yet. Am I on the right track if I keep building and improving, or is there something important I’m missing?

Linux Admins is RHCSA/RHCE still worth it in 2026?

Please for those working as Linux Administrators, what’s your experience been like? I’m thinking about going for the RHCSA and eventually RHCE. Do you think these certs though I hate to use the word cert but prefer the knowledge and experience gained however does it actually help open doors? Also, what skills would you recommend alongside them. I have good solid Linux background and know my way around but not on admin level

Is Sysadmin still a good career in 2026?

Please For those working as Sysadmins, how is the job market these days? With cloud engr, Platform engineering etc becoming more popular, is traditional Sysadmin still worth getting into? Are there still plenty of opportunities, and how much are the roles changing toward cloud/automation? Just interested in hearing from people actually doing the job and your thoughts and advice.

Seasons of My Life / Difficult Times

Over the last few months, it feels like almost every part of my life has been challenged at the same time.
I’ve been going through a separation, immigration difficulties visa issues , financial struggles, lost my job . If I’m honest, it’s been one of the most difficult seasons I’ve ever faced. Multiple crisis all at once. Through all of this, the one place where I’ve consistently felt peace has been at the church of Latter Day Saint . I was baptized couple of weeks ago, and the missionaries who taught me and helped me settle into the Church have been a huge support to me. Before they were transferred, they encouraged me to speak with the bishop about everything that’s been happening and see what guidances and help might be available. I intend to do that, but it also got me thinking if is possible to get support from the church ? I feel tired in every sense of the word mentally, emotionally, and financially. Some days it’s difficult to see what comes next. Even so, I still have a desire to keep moving forward, grow closer to God, and find ways to serve others where I can.

I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone what the church can do in my situation or if is possible for any help.

Building a Appsec career While Questioning the Path

Been spending a lot of time lately building a Cloud AppSec lab in AWS while going deeper into PortSwigger and API security. I completed the HTB CPTS path, with decent AWS cloud knowledge,  pushed me to start building my own environment with DVWA, VAmPI Installed inside EC2 , learning SSRF etc , to interact with AWS metadata’s , via vulnerable IAM role misconfigured S3 buckets API security issues

Sometimes I wonder if this is actually the right way toward eventually finding opportunities in AppSec or cloud career, with the AI apocalypse and also the many talented people with certs and strong technical skills.  I think one thing I genuinely do have is curiosity and discipline. I enjoy learning, building things, documenting and taking note which I enjoy doing, and understanding why things work rather just capturing flags.  but wanted to share the journey with people further ahead in the field. To ask if this is enough or there isn’t opportunity these days with ai automating everything?

I’m 31 and feel like I’ve hit rock bottom.

Not long ago I was working hard, had a good tech job, and felt like life was moving forward. Then it feels like everything crashed at once visa issues, separation, financial strain, people close to me acting differently now, constant uncertainty, and now struggling to afford even basic needs like rent. It’s hard because it wasn’t one problem it feels like multiple life crises landed all at once, and I’m trying to understand how people survive seasons like this without losing themselves.

For those who’ve gone through a period where life completely knocked you down:

How did you cope when everything felt unstable and rock bottom?

What helped you mentally when it felt hopeless?

Was there a turning point where things started changing?

I’m not looking for pity, I still focus on working on myself and doing anything I can, network, apply for job, assessment and trying but I’m looking for perspective from people who’ve been through hard times and came back from it. How did you do it cause sometime I have doubts like would this change?
