Tracy

Did I miss something? Why exactly does that little brat keep blaming Maggie for Ben getting arrested?? Maggie didn’t call the police, so how was that Maggie's fault?? The hospital called Dr. Carlsen, and he was the one who told them the two had run away. But she’s not mad at him, only at Maggie? I don't get it.

I HATE that she is going to be in season 5! I like this show because it’s comforting and and wholesome, but with such an obnoxious brat around, it just becomes annoying!

Golden Palace: How could they afford it?

I've just started watching The Golden Palace and I'm confused by the premise. From what I understand, Blanche sold her paid off house in Miami and then she, Rose, and Sophia used the money to buy a hotel.

The Golden Palace is a pretty large hotel, though. I know sitcoms aren't always realistic, but a hotel of that size would cost far more than a single house.
Even if Blanche's house was worth a decent amount of money, that would only explain Blanche's share of the purchase since it was her house. The show presents all three of them as co-owners, so where exactly did Rose and Sophia get the money for their shares? Financial problems came up more than once in Golden Girls, neither of them was wealthy.

Honestly, the whole thing feels really far-fetched. The writers could have come up with a more believable way to get the characters there in the first place.

Issue with the ending

I've just watched the series finale, and there's one thing that doesn't quite work for me. Joyce's plan depended on Jonasi eventually dying from HIV. For that to happen, he had to avoid the treatment that would have kept him healthy.

But it is never explained why Jonasi chose not to take his medication. He didn't come across as someone who had given up on life, yet he simply refused treatment for no apparent reason. This is where the entire plot twist feels weak to me.

I think the story would have been stronger if Jonasi had actually been trying to follow his treatment while Joyce secretly sabotaged it. For example, she could have bribed Lindani with a large amount of money to replace Jonasi's medication with ineffective pills. Jonasi would have believed he was taking his treatment while Joyce's plan could still have unfolded as intended.

To me, that would have made the ending feel more believable and the plot twist even more effective.

So many unnecessary and random deaths

I’ve just finished rewatching the entire series and one thing that stood out to me is how many random and unnecessary deaths there are in DH.

Especially the deaths of Edie, Karl, and Mike felt completely unnecessary to me.

I know that the actress who played Edie reportedly had issues with the producer at the time and that they wanted to write her out of the show. But why not handle her exit differently? If they had to kill off the character they could have given her a more meaningful ending instead of having her survive a car crash only to get electrocuted by a power line. That was ridiculous writing.

Then there’s Karl’s death which felt very abrupt and almost thrown in for shock value. He died just like that and nobody ever seemed to grieve for him.

And Mike’s death bothered me the most. The series was already nearing its end anyway so why kill him off in such a pointless storyline?? Mike had survived so many dangerous situations throughout the show only to die the way he did. It just felt unnecessary and unsatisfying.

The problem isn't that characters die. Character deaths can be very powerful when they serve the story or contribute to a character's development. My issue is that most of them felt very random.
