Like many others, I've been following Sonam Wangchuk's hunger strike with growing concern.

Whether or not you agree with every one of his demands, I think we can agree on one thing: no democracy should allow a peaceful protest to end in irreversible harm before meaningful dialogue begins.

A conversation costs far less than a life.

I'm not posting this to argue politics or ask people to pick sides. I'm posting because I don't want to wake up to headlines that say we waited too long.

A lot of juniors have been asking why IGDTUW doesn't have a Student Council and whether one can be formed

A little context -

2028 batch did try to build one, unfortunately, due to a lack of unity and sustained participation, we couldn't formally establish it, even so, we didn't stop working on issues

Within the CSE department as well, many students felt that hardware-heavy subjects like IoT and unjust marking practices occupied too much of the curriculum for a Computer Science program, We communicated these concerns to the HOD and the Dean of Academics and requested greater emphasis on CSE-oriented subjects, and we finally have OOPs and other important subjects in our coming semesters

Since MANY juniors have recently expressed interest in having a Student Council, we've decided to take another step in that direction.

We've already have a group with 650+ student ( and seniors of the coming batch), the next step is to build a formal student body with active participation from all batches, we'll also be involving a faculty advisor so that the council can function in a structured and constructive manner
