Defense ammo.

Defense ammo.

Good evening, familia! Hope everyone is having a wonderful start to their weekend so far! I picked up a few boxes of different 9mm ammo to keep around. What types of ammo do you like to keep in your home defense hardware, whether it's 9mm, 45ACP, 10MM, whatever you like. Tell us why you prefer it over others!

I usually go with Sig V-Crowns in my EDCs, but these caught my eye while I was browsing online. I keep Hornady Critical Duty rifle ammo in my Hellion mags, so I figured I'd get some to throw in my Echelon as well. Based on what I've read, the polymer "flextips" in these bullets allow for penetration through common barriers like doors, walls, windows, etc, while still allowing for controlled expansion when hitting the intended target. I know that's mostly a lot of mumbo jumbo, but I figured "what the hell" and grabbed em anyway. The other 2 boxes are both Federal rounds of 124 and 147 grain loads respectively and are essentially supposed to do the same thing as the Hornady rounds.

As always, cousins! Have a great rest of your weekend! Be safe and stay dangerous!

My sweet, SWEET Springfield Armory Echelon.

Hey familia! Espero que todos están bien! (I hope everyone is doing well in Spanish)

I had another clip I wanted to share from my outing yesterday at the range. This is my birthday gift to myself. My new EDC, the Springfield Echelon. Don't ask me what the fuck I was doing with that finger. My excuse is that the trigger guard size in comparison to my previous EDC (Taurus G3) was throwing me off, but feel free to roast the dogshit outta me about it! 🤣🤣🤣

I really REALLY enjoyed breaking this one in and it really solidified my opinion about Springfield Armory as a company. I already own a Hellion and am truly a fan of their rifles and handguns. I already can't wait to go back to the range in a few days for more fun!

Hope everyone has an incredible rest of their day! Love and light to all of you. As I always tell my little brother: be safe, but stay dangerous! SALUDOS!!!

New toy

Broke my new Taurus G3 chassis in at the range today along with the new Echelon I picked up. This is the CAA MCK "Glassbreaker" that came with that barrel attachment as well as the optic, laser, and side-mounted flashlight. This thing was so much damn fun and I think I put out about 200 rounds before I finally stopped and turned my attention to the Echelon and Hellion I also brought with me for range day. ANIMO!!!!!

New EDC

I was waiting around forever to get the version of this piece with the integral comp, but every single time I'd receive my wishlist notification letting me know it was back in stock, I would go to check out and it would almost IMMEDIATELY show up as out of stock again. Decided "Fuck it." and just grabbed the regular 4.5 Springfield Echelon without the compensator in the slide. Know what? It still is an incredible gun and the recoil isn't even that hefty to where a comp is a must have. Plus, I'm a giant gorilla, so I should be able to handle a little kick either way. Must say I am VERY happy with this purchase and I had a lot fun breaking it in today. I ordered the Gearpac that comes with 4 mags and the Viridian optic already attached. I went ahead and also threw on a laser/flashlight combo I had laying around just to complete the works.

As always, familia, I hope everyone out there had a great weekend. Love and light to all of you!

Chassis System

Good evening, family! Just wanted to stop in and share my excitement over my new piece of hardware. I recently upgraded to a new Springfield Armory Echelon as my primary EDC which meant my Taurus lost it's coveted place in my CC holster. Instead of just letting it sit and collect dust, I decided to give it a new suit of armor and new life as the heart of this chassis system I ordered for it. I live in a restrictive state, so pretty much most shit that's any bit of fun at all is banned outright. With the CAA MCK Gen 2, I can at least squint my eyes and pretend. I've been wanting one for a long time because in all honesty, they looked like a lot of fun to shoot, so I am pretty happy with this purchase.

This particular kit is the "Glassbreaker" kit, which comes with an optic, a side-mounted flashlight, a laser, and the barrel extension that gives this set-up it's name. It feels really sturdy and I cannot wait to hit the range with this thing.

Hope everyone has an incredible day. Love and light to all of you! Saludos!

Bad days at work make for good days at the range.

I had a really shitty day at work today. Sometimes, it's better to just walk it off and take that frustration and turn it into focus at the range. It wasn't a very long session. Only 100 9mm rounds from my G3. Just enough to make me feel less stressed and much more centered. This was my best sheet of the day. I set the target back to right about the 30ft mark. I usually do one mag all aimed at center mass and the other all at the head area.

I left feeling soooo much better and it gave me some time to myself so that I could just think about things and process them.

Anyway, I hope y'all are having a great night out there in spite of all the really bad air across the country because of the wildfires going on up in Canada. Love and light to all of you!

Rifle locking mechanism

Has anyone ever used one of these locking setups for your rifles? Where they hook up directly on to your kits? Was curious about them and they seem like a really great way to avoid having to use a sling that might just get cumbersome.

Delivery day!

Good evening, family! Just wanted to stop in and say hello. Very excited about my new delivery today! I ordered 1000 rounds of X-Tac 556 green tip ammo for just under 480 bucks. Most of my green tip that I purchased gets sealed and put in storage along with a few other "just in case" items and some dehumidifier packets. I also ordered about 2000 rounds of 556 55gr FMJ range ammo for about 900 bucks. Pretty stocked up for a while now so I'm good to go! All of this was purchased online from Ammo.com. It's my go-to for bulk ammo or if I need something my local range just doesn't carry or has run out of.

Where do y'all do your shopping for ammo at? Do you have a favorite website? Or do you prefer to buy what you need in person? Let me know in the comments and share pictures if you have any. Have a great rest of your evening, familia! As always, love and light to all of you and stay dangerous! ✊🏽✊🏿

556 variants

Good evening, family! I was organizing my stock earlier after getting some ammo in the mail and it made me curious as to what types of 556/223 ammo y'all keep around.

Pictured here from left to right, my X Tac 62gr steel core rounds that I keep around for "just in case," Frontier 55gr FMJ rounds for target shooting, Frontier 77gr hollow point BTHP rounds for long range shooting with a scope, and some Hormady Critical Defense polymer tipped 73gr rounds that I keep loaded up in a few mags for home defense.

What specific types of 556/223 rounds are your favorites and how do you use those rounds that you prefer?

As always, thank you for your input and stay safe out there, familia! Love and light to all of you!

Thrifty Hardware

What is the most inexpensive, yet somehow incredibly reliable piece of hardware in your arsenal? I bought this Dickinson Marine Tactical 12 Guage about 6 years ago mostly as something to fill in the need I had in my collection for a shotgun. It was actually my very first scattergun I've ever owned, so I figured I would keep this around and really familiarize myself with a pump action until I felt like I was reasonably adept and accurate with it before upgrading to either a Benelli or a Mossberg. Lo and behold, it has now been 6 years and I absolutely LOVE this thing. It has become one of my favorite pieces in my collection and I always have so much fun with this thing. I paid about 180 bucks for it and it has proven itself to be extremely reliable, durable, and very easy to take apart and clean. I heard so many warnings about the quality prior to buying it, but I guess I got lucky. Thousands and thousands of shots later, and not a single malfunction or misfire. I'm certainly in no rush to move up, but I have to admit, those Keltecs i've seen out there certainly look REALLY nice! Lol

Anyway. Tell me what your cheapest, yet also most relaible weapon is. Post pictures in the thread.

As always, famila, love and light to all of you!

Body Armor

Good evening, familia! I know this is primarily a gun sub, but I was just curious as to whether or not there are folks in here that also own kits and plate carriers. Given the current state of affairs in this country I am of the mindset that it certainly doesn't hurt to have all the protection you can get. I'm certainly not one to wear mine all the time and flex like I'm Frank Castle or nothin like that, but it's nice to know it's there just in case.

I own a level 3+ carrier (with side plates) I purchased on sale from Spartan Armor. It's coated in a proprietary polymer that mitigates any spalling or frag. The major downside is the weight. These plates are steel and there is no going around the fact that they are HEAVY as hell. I do plan on getting another kit at some point, and it will be ceramic for sure. Much lighter and easier to wear. Here is a picture of my setup.

Hope you all have a wonderful rest of your evening, everyone! Love and light to you all!

EDIT: I wanted to also add a link to a video that was basically the reason I decided to go with this particular setup. It's a torture test showing how much damage these particular plates can take as well as a demonstration of how the spall mitigation coating works.

Springfield Armory Hellcat vs Echelon

Hello, familia. Just looking for some advice on whether to go with a Hellcat Pro or the 4.5 Echelon for my next purchase. I've seen a few posts in here from people that own either or both. What are some of your thoughts on those of you that have purchased and enjoyed them? Any pros and cons?

As always, thank you in advance for participating and helping. Love and light to all of you.

Self defense rounds for rifles.

Good evening, familia! Sending all of you love and light from the Southside of Chicago. Just downstairs in my basement reorganizing my ammo and I started getting curious about what some of y'all keep in your rifle mags for home defense.

I'm of the mindset that on your EDC pistol, you should always have a mag loaded with rounds built to stop a threat as quickly as possible, so the same logic should apply to the rifles we keep at home. Most 556 and 762 rounds (even weaker grain loads) will overpenetrate and keep on sailing through the air until they hit whatever object is behind it. Even though my first inclination in a home invasion situation would be to grab my pistol, I figured it wouldn't be such a bad idea to keep a rifle mag loaded with some sort of rifle rounds that were engineered to deform upon impact with your target. I ordered a few boxes of these Hornady Critical Defense rounds after seeing a few videos on YouTube breaking down the ballistics on them.

My question to you good folks in here is: do you also keep some sort of alternate defense-type ammunition for your rifles around similar ro what you would have for your pistols? If so, what kind do you use?

Thank you all in advance for joining this discussion and I hope you have a great night out there!

Conceal Carry Methods.

For those of you in here that CC, what is your preferred method of carry? I used to wear mine in one of those vacuum formed holsters tucked over the frontside of my right hip. It just got too uncomfortable for me, so I ordered a bellyband to give it a try and I haven't looked back. I can wear it tight against me body and it will not print or show an outline no matter how thin whatever I'm wearing over it is.

How do you wear your weapon on your person when you CC?

Family time.

Took my little brother out to the lanes earlier today. We've both been so busy lately that we've hardly had time to hang out. Spent a good hour with him at the range and we got caught up a little. I stripped the optic off of my Hellion so that I can help him work on his aim using ironsights alone. I'm one of those form believers in getting truly familiar with your weapon AS IS before adding on modifications and optics. Also shot the G3 for a bit as well.

Overall, it was a really fun time and I think it's very important to teach our loved ones how to use firearms and be comfortable with them. If the need ever arises, they'll know what to do to. Aside from that, it's good in general to spend as much time as possible with family. These are very tumultuous times and we all need to slow down and remember the important things in our lives and cherish them. Do not take those moments you have with family for granted and remember to make sure to stop and enjoy the little things in life.

I hope everyone out there had a wonderful day today! Be safe, but stay dangerous! ✊🏾✊🏿💪🏽💪🏿

Gun/Ammo Storage

Friendly reminder for those of us that store ammo in bulk: be sure to remember that all the ammo in the world does you no good if it is in poor condition and may no longer be viable because of that. It is good practice to add dessicant packets into your gun safes and ammo boxes to help keep your stores dry and in serviceable condition. This is especially vital if you live in an area with very humid summers or store your ammo in a basement.

I use Wiseorb (pictured here) for my ammo boxes and hang a few Zarpax packs in my gunsafe. Zarpax systems are completely rechargeable and throwing them in a microwave will make the packs ready to hang up in a safe again.

Wheelguns

Any revolver fans in here? This is my Model 15-2 Dan Wesson 357 Magnum manufactured in about 1973. It was in my father's possession for decades and he willed it to me when he passed.

I definitely prefer a more modern pistol to a revolver, but I will be the first to holler at you about just how much fun this thing is to shoot. Feels like holding a small fire-breathing dragon on a leash when I'm at the range. Absolutely crazy how powerful this thing is.

Foregrips

Thinking about trying out some other foregrip/handstop options for this thing. Any recommendations y'all have would be greatly appreciated. Pictures in the thread are a plus.
