Randos soon will be writing parking tickets

So this company called Taggr is advertising to get "independent contractors" in Harrisonburg to sign up and start ticketing people's cars for parking violations in private lots (not public parking areas). Basically anybody can dl the app and start writing tickets. I think you can boot wheels too but idk how that works.

Taggr has been in Charlottesville a while. Guess they're expanding. I would not sign up to do this unless you are legit starving to death. It's not worth getting pounded into hamburger by some jacked dad who takes exception to you ticketing his Range Rover.

Heads-up: if you use Anthem health insurance (commercial, Medicaid, or Medicare), Sentara hospital may soon stop accepting it

Sentara RMH recently issued a bizarre rant against Anthem. The bottom line is that in 2027, folks with Anthem health insurance who enter Sentara may find that Sentara will say "Sorry we don't take that any more. Do you have a credit card?"

>In a press release issued after the event, Sentara said that it had provided Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield of Virginia “with formal notice of its intent to allow certain commercial, Medicare and Medicaid agreements to expire if a new agreement cannot be reached.” ...

>“Under the current agreements, Sentara remains in-network for certain Anthem commercial and Medicare members through at least December 31, 2026, and Medicaid members through January 28, 2027, with additional contracts expiring on a rolling basis into 2027.”

If you think that this is a scenario you would like to avoid in the near future, you should consider dropping Anthem (sorry, don't kill the messenger) and enrolling in another health plan.

Here are some dates (DISCLAIMER: do not take this info as gospel. Especially from some rando on Reddit. Do your own research!)

Medicaid for Charlottesville/Western Halifax incl Harrisonburg, Rockingham, Staunton etc:

  • Open enrollment is August 19, 2026 – October 31, 2026.

Medicare:

  • Open enrollment is October 15 – December 7.

Affordable Care Act (ACA) in Virginia:

  • Open enrollment is November 1 to December 31.

The WHSV News app changed and now you can't stream the news show any more

2 weeks ago, you could stream on demand the latest whole half-hour news show. This past week something changed. Now all I see is a bunch of "local news" from places like Idaho, etc. For WHSV news all I can watch is something like a 3-minute weather segment. WTF?

Mundo Fresco Supermarket across from Lowe's has a butcher shop

Mentioning b/c somebody posted asking about places to buy fresh meat. Place is a small Hispanic mini-market. There's a butcher shop in back where you can buy fresh sausages, chorizo, etc. Good if you pass by there anyway (where 33 crosses 81) and want a quick fresh meat pick-up. 1544 E Skyview St, next to Xfinity store.
