I’m getting a little bored with the current window tint. I was thinking of maybe doing all black around and do a chamelon tint in the front.

What yall think? Tacky?

This post is just for advice

Back in March, I decided to get a Tesla.

Before that, I owned a Lexus IS500 F Sport for almost a year. It was an amazing car and that V8 was something special. But my ownership experience ended up being frustrating because of issues with the front bumper and headlight alignment. The car went back and forth to Lexus multiple times, Lexus Engagement Center got involved, and I kept getting different explanations and excuses.

I even compared my car to other brand new IS500s on dealer lots and it became pretty obvious something wasn’t right. After dealing with it for nearly a year, I was done.

What’s funny is my previous BMW M340i was probably the best ownership experience I’ve had. I never thought I’d say that after owning the IS500.

A few weeks later, I sold the Lexus and ordered a Model Y.

I went back and forth between the Performance and AWD. Since this was going to be my first Tesla, I figured I’d play it safe and get used to the charging, technology, and EV lifestyle before jumping into the Performance model.

I ended up with a Diamond Black Model Y AWD with the white interior.

And honestly… I absolutely love it.

The funny part? When I picked up the Tesla, I noticed one of the headlights was slightly misaligned. A few months earlier I probably would’ve declined delivery on the spot after everything I went through with Lexus. Instead, I just looked at it and thought, “You know what? I’m not doing this again.” I said screw it and drove the car home.

The technology is incredible, the convenience is something you don’t fully understand until you live with it, and the acceleration still makes me smile every time I drive it.

Since I have a young son, I went ahead and ceramic coated the white seats myself right away. So far they’ve held up great.

My one regret is not getting PPF immediately. I’ve already picked up a couple of rock chips on the front end. It stings a little, especially on black paint, but it is what it is.

I still need to get tint done and I’m trying to decide if I should just tint the side windows or also do a clear heat-rejection film on the windshield.

I gave it its first proper wash this weekend and seeing the Diamond Black paint sparkle in the sun reminded me a lot of my old IS500 in Caviar Black. Black cars are a pain to keep clean, but when they’re freshly washed, there’s just something about them.

I’m also including some photos of the products I used after doing a proper pre-wash and wash process. Always interested to hear what everyone else is using on their Teslas.

Going into Tesla ownership, I was curious but skeptical.

A few months later, I completely get the hype.

Any former Lexus, BMW, Audi, or Mercedes owners here that made the switch to Tesla? How has your experience been?
