Watching landman for the first time
i decided to do something with my family and watch the TV show Landman
i'm only a few episodes in and every conversation follows the exact same pattern. someone says something mildly naive or idealistic, then billy bob thornton gets 90 uninterrupted seconds to explain How The World Actually Works while everyone stares at him like he just discovered fire. its really making me hate the show and its giving me a panic attack. once i noticed it, i couldn't stop noticing it.
also why does nobody talk like a normal person? every conversation becomes a debate, every debate becomes a monologue, and every monologue ends with tommy being objectively correct.
there's this constant fantasy of "grizzled middle-aged guy with real-world experience effortlessly humiliates lawyers, environmentalists, young people, rich people, and women because none of them understand reality."
like okay. i get it. unfortunately the vibe is my uncle getting unlimited prep time for every argument he's ever had on facebook.
i'll probably keep watching because now i'm fascinated, but so far this feels less like a drama and more like a 14-paragraph facebook comment turned into prestige television.
does it ever become more self-aware or is this it. also is there any actual autism awareness in this show or is it just all white people saying white people things???

Hello, I recently read the book mentioned in the title and loved it! I picked up the paperback from the Barnes and Nobles BWC section on sale and fell in love with it! As a mixed man myself i found the story really endearing and relatable to me. Is there any books (or ebooks) with similar themes explored?

She sat at the back of the bus, and when her stop arrived she got off and continued on her commute.
