General rule of thumb for retrieve type lures?
Whether it’s in line spinners, grubs, whopper plopper, cranks, anything that you cast and retrieve, how many times do you guys do it before moving on? I find myself stuck for too long in places I think.

Been to a few lakes, but wondering if anyone had any go to areas for decent fish. Don't care what species honestly.
Basically a large pond, or maybe a small lake here. I have about an inch of red worm on a jighead and tiny panfish magnet bobber. I am seeing water disturbances as seen in the water, I thought my casting was basically bang on as you can see in the video but I didn’t get any bites.
Am I crazy?
Just started fishing, haven’t caught anything but I think I’ve just been so overwhelmed by all the info that’s out there. Gonna slow down and focus on just panfish cuz I think that’s easiest/ most likely.
Picked up the panfish magnets and some panfish bobbers. Is the correct method listed below?
main line to snap swivel, 2 feet of leader to a rigged panfish magnet plastic. Cast out and slowly let sink/ pull
Up and down once a while
same thing, but clip the bobber somewhere on main line.
If there’s a bunch of vegetation should I be aiming for that, or right outside of?
Should I go early in the morning?
Thanks for the help!
South of Seattle area, been trying to do some dockside fishing past couple days. Didn’t get a single bite, I was in spots where there were lots of other fishermen so I imagine i was somewhere where fish COULD be caught. I haven't fished in like 14 years, but when I used to it was saltwater fishing/ poke poling.
Day 1: at a large urban lake that’s been stocked with trout. Ran an in line spinner lure for a good hour without a single nibble. Also tried a terrible Texas rig worm, but not sure how I was supposed to fish with it. Do I just jerk it up and down? 0 bites after a few hours.
Day 2: at a small pond that’s heavily overgrown. Lots of anglers on a protruding dock. Decided to go for catfish by rigging a sinking double hook line baited with cubes of spam. Tried this for a while, 0 bites after just leaving it in a certain spot for 10-15 minutes. Also tried by spinner but no dice.
Is there something I’m doing wrong? I ordered some panfish magnets and their assorted floaters cuz I’m desperate just to catch something. My son expressed interest in fishing and I feel like all the trips have just been boring/ disappointing for us both.
Thanks!
