I love democracy, I love the Republic... but is the GAR really that clean and OP?
I've been lurking this sub for quite a while and, although discussions here are pretty healthy and lovely, I've noticed that the Venator (and other GAR stuff) gets glazed a lot. Of course, everyone has their preferences/biases, and the discussions around ships are nowhere near as bloody as other parts of the fandom, but I still find the level of bias when it comes to powerscaling, or simple comparisons, to be insane at times.
As a mostly Imperial fan, it's so annoying how constantly people outside of this community, especially YouTube comments, just spam "LAAT is better", "Venator solos", "wouldn't survive an AT-TE" whenever Imperial stuff is casually brought up. And, often, the arguments are pretty biased, usually resorting to out-of-context clips from Clone Wars or Rebels where the good guys are clearly using their plot armor or standard Star Wars silliness. And it's not like I can escape those discussions by turning to other factions, since the Rebellion and CIS suffer pretty much the same fate despite both sharing the same level of aura and drip as the other 2 main factions.
My main gripe is with ground vehicles and troops, as the average Clone Trooper and AT-TE are supposedly able to solo everything thanks to the GAR's "superior training and hardware" (like they don't just stand in the open and get one-shot by cheap mass-produced robots), but I suppose this sub isn't the place for that. However, Venators and LAATs get a similar treatment despite them also being consistenly shown not being able to take much punishment from their Separatist "counterparts", especially the latter. Yeah, the Venator is mainly a carrier and it does a great job at being one, and looks good too, but that armor isn't surviving a barrage from an ISD that isn't stalling for Vader's arrival or patiently waiting for the Y-Wings to bbq their fleet, as the dorito was literally built for that type of combat. Poor LAAT pilots always have such a low on-screen survivability rate as well, makes me wonder if the TIE really is the #1 flying coffin (I can still hear their screams from the Battlefront 2004 Geonosis map).
Another pet peeve of mine is the discussion around railings and security cameras inside capital ships, like, people act like it's an Imperial thing when THE SAME criticism can be applied to literally EVERY other faction (except the Seps sometimes), ESPECIALLY the GAR, like, holy double standards. But, yeah, at the end of the day this is pretty much meaningless and makes 0 actual difference to the world or anyone else's life, but I wonder what you guys think of the topic lmao.
