Book club recommendation

Hi! I’m looking to join a book club and would love to meet some new people who enjoy reading. 📚 If anyone knows of a group that’s welcoming new members, I’d love to join in :)

Would it make sense to “request for an internship/shadowing opportunity”?

I’m in life sciences and planning to sit for the patent bar before the end of the year. I’ve been doing informational chats over the last few weeks but it sounds like hiring is pretty slow right now, especially for life sciences patent scientist/technical specialist roles.

—> Would it be worth asking in my cold emails whether firms or practitioners would consider an internship, shadowing, or short-term opportunity so I can get some exposure to patent prosecution and learn the work?

Context: PhD grad, SF Bay Area, firms that have no summer internship openings at the moment or for scientists roles.

Is that realistic, or would it come across as an unusual ask? Thoughts and advice?

Edit: Posted here a few weeks ago and got some really helpful suggestions that I’ve been working on thanks to all that took the time to help out :)

Honeymoon in Puerto Vallarta This December – Need Recommendations

We’re planning our honeymoon in Puerto Vallarta for the week of Christmas and would love some recommendations!

We’re looking for an all inclusive… good food, relaxing pools, and a good mix of romance and things to do.

A few questions:

  1. Which resorts would you absolutely recommend (or avoid)?
  2. What excursions, restaurants, or experiences are must-dos?
  3. Is there anything we should prepare for that time of year (holiday crowds, restaurant reservations, weather, transportation, etc.)?

We’d love to hear what made your trip special. Thanks in advance! 😊

Breaking into patent prosecution after my PhD. Looking for tips and referrals.

Just wrapped up my PhD… which still feels surreal!!!

I’m trying to break into patent prosecution, ideally starting as a Technical Advisor or Scientific Advisoror analyst in life sciences or pharm or medical devices before I work on taking the patent bar.

The job market is tough…as expected. I’ve also heard a lot of these roles get filled through referrals and word of mouth because firms move pretty quickly.

Would love any advice from people who made a similar move. Also open to a quick Zoom chat, and very grateful for any leads or referrals if your firm is hiring (SF and greater Bay Area). I’d be incredibly grateful.

Any tips, success stories, or reality checks are welcome… just trying to figure out the smartest path forward. Thanks!

Finally my turn! Officially Dr.

After 6 long years I’m excited to finally post here. I blacked out for a few days after defense but had to come out of hibernation to share that I’m officially PhDone (pending minor revisions to dissertation) 💃💃💃
