Anyone who lives in NYC or other big cities- how do you report owners letting their dogs pee on the sidewalk plant arrangements?

It's out of control. The city tries so hard to maintain trees and plants on the sidewalks, and tonight after coming home from the fireworks, I saw a woman intentionally lift her dog into the plants to let it pee/defecate there. The dog had actually been going on the curb. Confronting doesn't work, by the way.

Are the dog owners here ever going to stop letting their mutts pee on the beautiful plant and flower arrangements on the sidewalks?

Just came from watching the fireworks and saw this woman INTENTIONALLY lift her dog that was going on the curb to pee into the plants- 83rd between 1st and York, opposite street from the shoe repair shop. And before you tell me, "confront her," that doesn't work. They start screaming or just ignore you (I've tried).

Why do you all do it? Do you get a kick out of destroying greenery? Wish I could have gotten a picture- but it was too dark. Crazy-looking, skinny, young, probably high on something, kind of wild dark hair, smug face. Tanned. Next time, I am absolutely taking a pic and posting it everywhere.

Praying for a citywide dog ban someday. Cats only.

Where to go solo for the 4th of July to watch fireworks?

ETA: To the kind Redditor who offered me a lottery ticket she won't use, thanks so much! Like an idiot, I accidentally hit ignore request! I hope you read this so you won't think I intentionally didn't respond. BUT, I'm really thinking about bypassing the crowds and doing something quieter after all. Thanks though! Hope someone else can use your ticket.

Friends/family not around and I wanted to stay in the city for the 250th without spending hundreds of dollars or camping out in a crowd for hours. Any ideas how and where to watch them? Or is this just not going to be possible? I also live near Yorkville, and the original plan was to just watch them from the park there, but I'm thinking that's not the best idea this year because of the location.

Where are you all watching the fireworks from?

On the 4th. And what time are you planning to get there? Guess there's no way to really avoid the insane crowds, is there

[PubQ] Authors querying YA: How's your journey been from 2025-2026?

Are you continuing to query YA? Pivoting to other genres or trunking? How many queries have you been sending out?

I've been at it for 3 months for a YA fantasy that's not romance-centered (at least in the traditional way), and about a 5% request rate which I know is... meh. 4 years ago when I was querying a worse YA book, I think I had almost a 20% request rate.

Are you using pitch contests, going to conferences, mostly cold querying?

Have you stopped going into stores who won't stop allowing dogs inside?

Edit for grammar: Stores "THAT" won't stop

I'm in NYC, and I'm fed up with dogs not only being in grocery stores, but in The Strand, in skincare stores, in friggin' UNIQLO. And the spaces are tiny in this city-I don't want dog fur on my clothes or even just brushing against me.

But when I've tried writing to management, I get ignored, or a passive-aggressive email saying I should just "deal with the fact that this is the new normal."

I need to buy things- and I don't want to always go online for that. What now?

What do I put on the floor here?

This is the one corner of my studio apartment that I don't know what to do with. Putting a chair or loveseat there would make the area too crowded. I love Tiffany lamps, but the shade would compete with the wall art, and I already have a couple of rugs in the place so I don't want to add another. Any ideas?

Wa Jeal's Chocolate Cake

I know they're known for the amazing General Tso's- but just want to say, their chocolate cake is the best I've had in this city. And I'm a chocoholic who's been to a LOT of bakeries. Just wanted to spread the word. 😄

Who to call to haul away broken furniture?

I need to replace a sofa and a bed/mattress. Who would I call who can do that? Any idea how much it costs?
