SS home from university every weekend

Hi, my stepson is in second year university about 90 minutes away. An immature but sweet teen. First year, he came home every single weekend (Thursday night he'd come in and would go back early Monday morning). I suggested to his father that if he doesn't like living away, maybe change to somewhere closer so he can live at home. I was told to stay out of it. Now his dad is paying rent off campus and the pattern is happening again. He is there 3 nights a week again and comes home Thursday nights to Monday. His dad pays over $1000 in rent for his apartment there. Again I was told "He's on how own journey." Whatever that means. Aside that it's harder when he's here, as he is messy and entitled, I think it's a huge waste of money, doesn't support his independence or growth (which he needs) and hurts his social life. Maybe I'm just venting but I also need a bit of validation. This is weird right? His dad makes me feel like I'm weird that I find this so odd. I'd like to ask to go stay in his apartment for the weekend but he has a roommate. (One we also had to find for him, which I also found odd and was told "it's his journey." Um then why are you finding him a roommate and paying all his bills? ) Am I crazy for thinking dad should encourage a bit of independence??? And yes I admit I'd like some peace and quiet.

To the Porsche...

If you were the northbound douche in the Porsche who, when the light turned green, from the left turning lane, crossed in front of two lanes of traffic to get onto the 401 eastbound at Avenue road, I hope Karma is real. I mean, who do you actually think you are? I hope you were rushing home to your house burning down, or that you had massive diarrhea that was leaking onto your leather seats.

White noise machine

Unfortunately, my office is directly next to my director. And they recently started putting a white noise machine directly outside the door (beside my door too). I like to work with my door open to get air. But the noise is driving me nuts. They have it on all day, and even when they are not there ( forgets to turn it off). When it does go off, I feel my whole head and body relax. Is there a polite way I can ask them to remove it? They seem to think people care what is going on in there (eye roll). Thanks.
