1601 Dekalb Avenue

I live like 2 blocks away from this place and noticed that some people have moved in. Anyone on here got through with this place or is in the application process to getting approved here? I also applied for this place and am curious.

Post Interview - CBP Physical Scientist

Has anyone who recently interviewed for the physical scientist position with the CBP's Laboratories and Scientific Services heard anything back since then? I'm curious as to when they'll start reaching out to people letting them know if they're moving forward/if they aren't (if they even let you know if you're not moving forward)

NYPD and NYC OCME

Is there anyone on here who can give advice/I can talk to about getting my foot in the door to these two agencies? I've applied before but honestly from things I've heard, it really helps to have connections who work there/people you can talk to that can directly get your application/resume looked at. I've been in contact with people who work there before but it's just been talk about the application process, what people hiring may look for, etc.

NYC OCME

Does anyone on here work at the NYC OCME or know anyone who works there? Just one I would like my application to move past received. I know there are an influx of people who want to join so it’s hard to go through such a big pool every time a job goes up. What are you guys doing over there lol or just what are you guys looking for in someone's application? Does it also help to know someone who works there so you can get your foot in the door? Who do I have to talk to if so?

CBP Physical Scientist

Has anyone else seen/applied for this role? It closed about 2 months ago and I was curious to see if anyone here also applied/how is the process going for you so far.

Recent Graduate Interviews

As the title states, what would the interview for a recent graduate position be like? I’m mainly talking about science/lab positions but am open to anyone who has interviewed for non-science at recent grad positions. Will it be mainly situational based questions and things about your personality/past work and experiences? Can one expect any sort of technical questions or will it just be situational and based on your experiences, including why you want to work for this specific organization and this specific role.

What To Potentially Expect for Upcoming Interview

I have a panel interview for a scientist job that's aimed for recent grads. I'm not sure if there will be more after this one as this is my first time interviewing for a federal job. I'm also not quite sure what to expect for the panel interview. I'm assuming it will just be a get to know you and how you think/react to certain situations? Such as tell us who you are, how you think you fit this role, why this company and role, strengths and weaknesses, have you ever encountered a difficult situation or coworker, how do you handle a situation like this, etc etc. But should I expect technical questions relating to instrumentation, methodologies, things along those lines?

My Least Favorite Part of an Interview - 'Tell us about yourself'

I do not like this question because what can I say that isn't already on my resume? I always just kind of fumble my way through this part but I never feel satisfied with what I say. It usually goes along the line of 'My name is... I'm a student at.. majoring in... I work at ... as a ..." then I don't know where to go from there. I also don't want to just repeat things the interviewer may already know. What are some sort of outlines you all use that feels to the point yet reliable? I'm a recent graduate (just got my master's), have been working as a lab assistant for about 2 years where I just do your typical lab assistant jobs yet feel like I don't really have any big work accomplishments to talk about in an introduction statement. I don't want it to be too short but also not too long to where I'm just saying everything.

What to expect for an interview

I have a panel interview for a scientist position and am curious as to what potential questions I may be asked. It's a role for recent graduates so I feel like it might not go too in depth? Does it truly last the entire hour? I know they might ask the basic tell us about yourself, situational type, how you overcame certain problems, strengths and weaknesses, what about this role interested you/why this organization, etc. (correct me if I'm wrong.) But will I be asked competency questions that are to gauge my understanding of certain methodologies, instrumentation, things like that? Thank you in advance.

CPB Chemist/Physical Scientist

This is my second time applying for a federal job, and I ended up applying for two positions at the CPB, with one being an opening for new graduates. I've lurked around here and it seems like the CPB takes their sweet time (as does every other federal agency.) The postings closed towards the last week of May, so does anyone have any rough estimates on how long they usually take to review applications and pull out ones they're interested in? I'm assuming maybe some months?

Best Company Merch You've Gotten

Fellow labrats, I've been curious on this topic. We all know the famous pipette pens from Eppendorf. But what are some other cool/cute etc. plushies, lego sets, pens, etc etc you've gotten from different companies? I find that there are so many companies I don't know about, so I'm curious to see what are some of the things you've gotten directly from them through orders, reps, conferences.

Card Created but No tracking number

This was for a replacment card. Last update was December saying the card was created and tracking number was not provided. It’s been months with no update. Just talked to an agent who gave me a tracking number but USPS shows the tracking number as invalid. Agent said card was delivered but obviously we don’t have the card. Case status still stuck on the whole card has been made with no updates since. Has this happened to anyone or anyone have any ideas on this? To have to go through the whole process of getting a replacement for the replacement just seems like a waste of time. Either the card is lost or hasn’t been shipped or I just have no clue

YA, 2010s, haunted mansion/castle book?

I’ve just remembered this book whose name I can’t recall and its had me going mad. I remember reading this book back in middle school which for me was between 2011-2015. I can’t quite say if the book was released within those years or before. I remember reading it at the same time as Rebel Spirits. All I can really remember is this girl moves to another country (somewhere in europe I think, maybe some welsh country??) and moved to this castle that haunted? Here’s where my memory goes vague. Either her mother or father gets remarried and she now has a step brother. They move into this haunted castle and she encounters this ghost and I guess trues to help them move on/solve the mystery of their death type thing? Like I said my memory is incredibly vague so I can’t remember much. But something I feel like I remember is her and the stepbrother or whoever he is to her have this weird kind of tension? Like I remember reading it and me kind of being like ‘huh, interesting’. If any of this sounds familiar let me know. Something I’m definitely sure of is its a YA book, a move to some country like scotland or something, a haunted castle/manor. Then the whole thing about her and the stepbrother being a potential thing but I really can’t definitively say if I’m just imagining that or if it was an actual thing in the book lol. There was this book that I just cane across this is somewhat similar to what I’m looking for called Unquiet Spirits except the girl and her mom move and she ends up working at a haunted manor and has some sort of thing with the son of the owner. Could be that book for all I know but if the details I listed potentially rings any bells, let me know! Also there could have been some kind of festival that played some importance in trying to help the ghost move on? Middle school me should have wrote the name of this book down lol

Lost Fic

I think this fic may have been around 2021-2023? Sometime around then. It set in an omega dominant society. Izuku was an omega who was part of a rich family. Goes to like an omega etiquette school, that type of thing. One day he’s at the town market or something like that and sees them selling alphas (I believe that’s how you would find potential mates. Izuku saves a few: I think the initial bunch were bakugou, shoto and kirishima? Takes them home, cleans, clothes, feeds them, tries to earn their trust. Later on I think he manages to save denki and shinso? Overall it was omega izuku with his harem of alphas. I cannot remember the fic name or the author and it may have been deleted for all I know but does this fic sound familiar to anyone?

My hero academia deleted story

help a girl out if you can. This was an ao3 story from like 2020? or some time after that but has since been deleted and I (dumbly) lost the authors page. I think the oversll time setting was maybe 19th century or 18th century as I clearly remember that izuku attended a finishing/charm school or just a school for omegas overall to learn how to be a proper omega I guess? Izuku is an omega and ends up saving/buying some alphas that were being sold/abuse. I think the alphas were balugou, shoto and kirishima? Can’t really remembe. He treats them well and works to build their trust towards him. He later comes in to contact with shinso and denki and also brings them in. Overall it was a reverse harem type situatio. If anyone knows this fic, maybe had it saved or knows if its been archived let me know!

Ph.D. in Forensic Science

Hi, I'm currently wrapping up my master's in forensic science and have had an interest in doctoral programs for a short while now. I came across the SHSU Ph.D. in Forensic Science program and wanted to get some more information (I'm also planning to reach out to the program itself for more information.) I'm not planning on pursuing a Ph.D. anytime soon(would rather build up professional experience then do it), but if there is anyone currently in the Ph.D. program or anyone who knows about it, what's it like? Such as the application process, how much is the cost (I'm not a Texas resident), is the program funded, coursework, dissertation, developing an area of research, etc. Thank you in advance!

ok so dumb question but I’ve seen different variations. you’re at your road test, car in line with others. The dmv person says to start so you do your basic checks and get ready to leave the curb. If the car is parallel parked, then obviously you reverse first and then go to pull out. BUT here’s where I’ve seen different things. My instructor says turn the wheel all the way to the left and pull out. I saw someone else say like a turn and a quarter? Then another thing with if there’s no car in front of you, turn left once and pull out. Someone break it down for me please because atp I’m probably stressing over nothing but these dmv employees are ready to dock points for everything
