How the hell do quarterbacks deal with the pressure

I just watched a video of Brady in the pocket after the snap: see here .

And holy hell, all those players gunning for him and he just slips in and out while keeping cool and recognizing where his receivers are at. Ive seen Mahomes and Lamar Jackson do the same.

The mental pressure of this must be insane, Im not american and never played or watched NFL till recently, how the hell do these guys operate with soooo much hinging on them. Soccer, youre apart of the team and theres other players have possession of the ball alot of the time. Basketball, even LeBron runs actions and the ball moves around. It seems like in the NFL the qb starts the play and pretty much everything hinges on him being consistent.

People hired as SWEs who do research work?

I've heard from a few people now that people hired as SWEs/quant devs (and who usually have a dual degree in math/stats and compsci) can end up doing QR type work, but they also remark that they do it "without the QR pay" (sadly). Anyone noticed this dynamic?

Im unsure how the medical system failed Luigi Mangione

Luigi Mangione is in the news today because he admitted to killing the healthcare ceo. From what people have pieced together, the motivation for this was related to finding it difficult to get treatment/surgery for his back condition, spondylolilsthesis.

I have Spondylolysis, which is when you have a pars defect (fracture in lower back) that, if not managed properly, can lead to the more seeious condition Spondylolisthesis. I stupidly didnt address my lower back pain when it first started hurting and after it became debilitating, the GP I went to got an X Ray done and it showed the pars defect. Ive been dealing with pain for years and always wanted a fix, but the doctors (GP, orthopedic surgeons) all told me the same thing: unless its really bad (eg a bad grade of spondylolisthesis, and even then, wait till your older), surgery on a young persons back is not something they will consider, hell even guided x ray pain relief injections was not an idea they were fans of (because I only cared about my back for sports and physical activity which is when it flared up, same as Luigi, so it wasnt hugely impacting daily normal life). They said that solutions for back problems arent perfect and even that the procedure for repairing the pars defect (eg before spondylolisthesis) doesnt always work.

Again and again, they said physical therapy (not just lifting weights, but boring glute and core exercises) is the best tool. And honestly they were right, I may not be the sportsperson I once was, but I can feel how my backs better supported now.

So what gives? Luigi is young as hell, has spondylolisthesis, what did he expect out of the healthcare system? I remember when I saw the orthopedic surgeon, he was stern (which im grateful for) about not thinking about operating even if pain persisted and I kinda got the feeling he sees tons of patients who want easy fixes that just aren’t possible.

I agree with the conversations about the tordid US healthcare system etc etc, but it does puzzle me that this relatively manageable condition influenced him.

I keep losing to people sacrificing their bishop to take h3 pushed pawn as white.

I'm 850 elo chess.com, everytime I make a push to 900/1000, I can play/win in a game where we develop normally (e.g. a normal Ruy Lopez/Sicilian where bishops/knights are developed and not threatened and each side tries to attack pieces/files normally and get a pawn to the other end of the board), but as soon as someone just attacks my kingside by taking a pawn on h3 with their bishop or by blazingly pushing their kingside pawns and mounting an attack on my king by throwing everything at my kingside, I just crumble because my queen is blocked to protect (because my knight will be on f3 as white after development). The most annoying one is when, as white, I have castled and the h3 pawn is pushed, but black has their queen on g6 and threatens lightsquare black bishop takes on h3, which I can't take back with g2 pawn takes on h3 because the g file is occupied by the queen. How do I improve.

unsw is damn hard

maintaining a high grade feels like more than 15 hours a week per course for STEM ngl if you account for the fact that you're not studying 4/5/6/7/8 hours in a row (so breaks in between or losing focus).

man is the uni trimester even going on

we all know flex week is not really a break week and we're all studying. but, academic society discord's course chats (e.g. the STEM related related ones for math, cs etc.) are dead and no one posts about assessments/courses on Reddit for a while either. UNSW students, where the bloody hell are you?

yo no bs do international students even study

theyre either yapping at the top of their lungs in one of the libraries around unsw, or many remark that theyre working quite a bit to maintain their ability to stay here.
